I Just Bought … (Non-SW Shopping Diary)

Today purchased a couple of horror classics of different stripes:

New DVD:

New Blu-Ray:

So far I’ve read/watched through the “Guide to Westeros” feature on the first season blu-ray, read a lot of GoT-related info on Wikipedia, had a look at a couple of GoT-specific Wikis and acquired the first four books on Kindle. But I’m becoming quite familiar with who’s who and what’s what. Considering that I haven’t yet watched one minute of the show or read one word of the books, that is. ;D

New DVD:

Upgrades from DVD to Blu-Ray:

New DVD:

£3 each, can’t go wrong really. I’ve seen Heartless and I think it’s a good little film. Even if the Cabin Fever’s are crap (and I suspect they might be), for three quid they’re a nice example of early works by Eli Roth and Ti West respectively.

New Blu-Ray:

Never seen either of these seasons, only seen season one. Hearing a lot of positivity about the latest (fourth) season, so thought I’d better get back up to speed.

Just picked this up new for $1 8)

Nice. Tell us what you think about it as soon as you watch it, I wonder if you will enjoy the film as much as I did.

Nosferatu-Phantom der Nacht, Eyeball (German DVD), The Day of the Triffids (original), Stagefright, The Killing (Italian DVD) and White Zombie blu-ray.

Bargain price that George Lucas disc !

New blu-rays:

Will do. I’ve never seen it but seems like one I will like. I had a copy years ago and when I went to watch it, had only the commentary audio track so never got around to viewing the film.

Yeah I was pretty stoked about it!

Tonight, another bargain at $5 each:

I originally saw these when I bought THX and decided to go back and get 'em. Was actually gonna buy a few copies of Westworld to resell and pay for the purchase, but there was only one left. At first visit, there was also one copy of Pale Rider with the old cover art, and it was also gone so now I am stuck with the new, uninspired box art above. I really don’t understand why WB & MGM keep reissuing these films with this really horrible artwork, when just using the original poster art is so much better. Surely they can afford to keep the image rights.

Might actually print out the old cover and replace it.

Did some research prior to purchase and seems to be some debate over the quality of the Pale Rider bluray, sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me as I looked at comparison screenshots between the old DVD and the blu ray, and the blu ray transfer totally blows the DVD out of the water. One of the biggest improvements in PQ I’ve seen from DVD to Blu Ray.

Picked these two up today for a total of $3.21 8)

The Outlaw Josey Wales - definitely one of my top Eastwood-directed/non-Leone westerns, and a little extra special since the story is concerning a bit of Missouri history (although not filmed here). Don’t mind this cover as much as I dislike the Pale Rider cover. The new High Plains Drifter artwork isn’t too bad either.

The Wild Bunch - haven’t seen it yet

The first ”Cabin fever” is decent enough, but the second one is terrible.

I like the Pale Rider cover. Only they should have skipped the 2 riders in the background.

I like the Pale Rider cover. Only they should have skipped the 2 riders in the background.

It would be better without the two riders, but still would look like what it is: obvious marketing ploy to cash in on Clint Eastwood’s face and get the attention of would-be buyer/Eastwood lover, but without any artistic value (totally marketing, nothing inspired). When I look at it, all I see is some dude in an office cutting Eastwood’s face out of a random screenshot from the film because he was told to do so.

Its got nothing on the original cover, and even better would have been the use of this original poster:

But it looks grim, and it has icy colors. And I like that they cut off a third of Clint’s face. Looks better than the Josey Wales Blu. But the original cover is the best, yes.

It’s still incredible how ugly so many covers are.

I do like the gritty look of it, and Josey Wales would have been much better if it had the same grittiness but instead it looks kind of like a girly magazine photoshoot. But I like it cause its got the guns and I always like those 1860 Army models

now that is inspired

Can I get a hi-res copy of that for printing?

That there is about as hi-res as I get. ;D

Bought these!

And pre-ordered these…
