I Just Bought … (Non-SW Shopping Diary)

Upgraded my shotty old DVDs of these Di Leo essentials

The original Raro US DVDs had loads of issues and I’m confident the UK Radiance/Raro partnership is a lot better. I’ll be keeping my German Blu Ray copy of The Boss as a backup.

Just in time for Halloween

Saw all of these on either Svengoolie or Turner Classic Movies a couple of years ago and really enjoyed them

I haven’t bought it, but it is tempting: Once Upon a Time in America 4K UHD

I’m tempted with that German Peckinpah Blu Ray set with several versions of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid but its very expensive.

It’s worth it though with all the extras etc. have an eye out for a sale

I just ordered that box. I was looking for Cable Houge and found the German box.

US blu-rays.

Something for the Halloween season

I recently watched the first two seasons of Der Pass – brilliant series. Can’t wait to start the third one.

A pre-order of ‘The Wild Geese’, available from Amazon UK on December 8th.
This edition will be crammed with many new features…

Also: Just bought some horror for Halloween…

Thought I’d missed out on this amazing set from Radiance for dallying on the price too long, but the fine folks at Limelight still had copies to sell

Have Cruel Gun Story on DVD from The Criterion Collection Eclipse series, but am always eager for upgrades. And I’m curious about the other two films

Might pick up the Wild Geese 4k once it drops in on price a little. Never seen it but looks like a great Saturday night ‘dad flick’ which I always enjoy.

I’d say all the gentlemen here of a certain vintage, will whole heartedly recommend, ‘The Wild Geese’ but the price of that 4K special edition is pretty outrageous as far as I’m concerned. Pick up the Arrow blu ray for a fraction of the price and if it overnight becomes your fav’ ‘Dad Movie’ then think about an upgrade.

Just a suggestion

PS: After a quick google, I see even the Arrow release has become quite expensive - don’t know if that’s because it’s out of print ? … but I picked up a copy a few years ago for about £7 in the sales. Now I’m seeing copies on eBay offered at nearly £60 !

Aldo, this is a brand new release of ‘The Wild Geese’, which I think will put the earlier ‘Arrow’ BD to shame…

Thanks for the info, Toscano. It will be interesting to see a comparison of this new remastered version and the Arrow release - I still have fond memories of watching the movie in the cinema back in the day, on a huge screen (pre multi-plex cinemas) and being blown away.

It may not be PC, and even a bit ‘cheesy’ in places, but it’s a damned great adventure flick, pure entertainment made long before we had ridiculous social watchdogs telling filmmakers and audiences what they can do and see.

Hammer films stopped making films for 29 years after the less than thrilling remake of ‘The Lady Vanishes in 1979. Then they released ‘Beyond The Rave’, initially on MySpace (remember that) in instalments and then as a very limited DVD release of just 5,000 copies worldwide. The DVD now goes for stupid money (£100 on eBay currently).

So, last week I went into a charity shop in town and found it. For 50p. Made my day that did.
