My haul for today. A cheese course, I think. Saw Vault of Horror a million years ago (well, maybe 40); never seen Tales From the Crypt or Attack of the 50ft Woman.

Asa, you are in for a treat with ‘Tales From the Crypt’. Personally, it’s my favourite ‘Amicus’ film…
Please enjoy…

‘There Will Be Blood’ … superb and unique 8.5/10

… ‘Mandy’ was highly recommended to me, but I couldn’t get into it … like a bad trip - but I suppose that was the desired effect. Anyway, nice haul

The 4K Hellraiser Tetralogy is an upgrade on my old Blu-ray Trilogy set. The Salem’s Lot blu is a long-overdue upgrade on my old DVD. Daisy Duck makes a guest appearance at the insistence of my 5yr-old daughter.

Sweet…

Some excellent titles there, Asa. :+1:
Although, it’s a shame that you didn’t get a copy of ‘Howard the Duck’ as well…

I keep wondering: are these super overhyped or will I shit my pants because they’re so scary? old horror movies can go either way, so…

Seb, amigo, I hope the following helps you make up your mind as to whether or not you descend into the realm of ‘HELL…RAISER’…

The ‘Hellraiser’ films are, IMHO, not overly scary, but they are pretty gory, for their time (1987).
Compared to nowadays pornogragraphic brutality for its own sake, they are a breeze to watch.

They are also atmospheric, very stylish, daring for their time, and well worth watching, if only once, while you go away and ponder what the hell you have just seen…
.
Another big draw are the fantastically made-up characters from ‘Hell’…‘Pinhead’ etc.
The make-up, music, stilted dialogue from Hell’s demons, and would-be victims crapping their pants/knickers …is all worth the price of admission.

The first, and second films are the best…

It is worth watching the original ‘Hellraiser’ (1987), if only to see Andy Robinson (Scorpio in ‘Dirty Harry’)…
‘Hellraiser 2: Hellbound’ (1988) is also definitely worth a watch.

Final advice: Seb, if you do decide to watch them, then ensure to have a spare of under-pants at hand…
However, as so often happens with any film, the hype leading up to its release is the scariest thing usually…
In this case, I think that the hype was well deserved…

I just don’t wanna get nightmares  but also I don’t wanna laugh my ass off and get bored like during The Exorcist (what a crap movie, cue the haters)

I’d defo recommend atleast the first 2. Great special effects and the cenobites are really cool villains. I don’t think you will be laughing your ass off at them (I too found the exorcist quite funny when I watched it).

I loved the first one to bits when I was 16 but, well, I was 16. As movies, they’re camp overrated trash which make little to no sense even within their own logic. They’re also usually the product of a troubled shoot (the fourth one is an “Alan Smithee” film). BUT, the villainous cenobites - particularly Pinhead as portrayed by Doug Bradley - are brilliant enough to overcome every setback that the films present, and the movies (well, the first couple, anyway) are worth the watch just for those performances.
