I Just Bought … (Non-SW Shopping Diary)

Bruce Lee is cool n’ all but where’s my Brandon Lee boxset?

Would also take a blu ray version of “Enter the Eagles” too! (If just to fix the DVD cropping)

Just ordered the following two recent horrors from ‘Amazon UK’…

The 2013 remake of ‘Evil Dead’

Plus, what I regard as the finest of the classic cult TV series, ‘The Avengers’, starring the late, great Patrick MacNee and Dame Diana Rigg…These are the episodes that I remember the most from my youth - when, like most other lads - I had a crush on Emma Peel…

I think almost every male between 50 and 100 has had a crush on Diana Rigg at one time or another.

Much younger than that! LOL … but I actually liked Miss Blackman … Mrs Peel was a bit ‘Snooty’ for my taste

Love The Avengers, mainly the Diana Rigg Mrs. Peel episodes. Ms. Rigg was cool and seductive in the part all the way. I caught some of the Honor Blackman episodes a while back and felt they were very wooden and creaky, didn’t do either her or Patrick Macnee any justice I thought.

Mrs. Peel all the way, cool and classy

They were recorded live, and on a tiny budget by comparison to the ‘Mrs Peel’ era … but they do have some charm

Got a fat load of pre-orders done today. Been waiting ages for this Coffin Joe set:

^ I doubt I’ll enjoy this one at all but I have every other 88Films Jackie release and I don’t intend to stop

I empathize. Damn completism! :rage:

It’s a shame they’re not doing a boxset for “Inspector wears skirts”; I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first one, even though it’s obvious Cynthia was a late addition.
BTW any opinions on Blonde Fury? It’s the only HK Rothrock film I haven’t seen so it would be a blind buy, but I’m on the fence because of the focus on comedy and how disjointed it sounds due to director changes.

I didn’t actually pick up the Eureka release. I saw many people saying it was just ‘ok’. The Eureka release was like £22 or something daft like that whereas 88 films are usually £17 so I don’t mind blind buying as much

When I met Cynthia last month I asked if China O’Brien will be getting a blu-ray, but she pretty much said the rights are a pain in the ass. Her 3 favourite HK films she did are Lady Reporter, Yes Madam and Righting Wrongs.

Nice pickups there @Max, I’m planning on picking up those Cynthia Rothrock films as well, and soon I’ll have all her Hong Kong films. She’s really good as both an actress and Martial Artist. I’ve been curious about the Coffin Joe films for years, and this set is looking to be the ultimate for anyone interested in the character.

Thanks guys, it’s definitely a standard issue release if I do pick it up
I will say her releases are great for extras at least, thanks to her enthusiasm in being involved. On the other hand I’m going to pick up “She Shoots Straight” but it’s a shame there’s no interviews or anything bonus other than the commentaries.

Some new pick-ups through some wheeling and dealing:

Some Lamberto Bava horror

A two in one Giallo release from Vinegar Syndrome.

And a Jess Franco and Soledad Miranda collaboration surprisingly discovered at a used book and movie store called Half-Priced Books. I will have to say that whenever I watch one of her movies I am at the same time mesmerized by her onscreen presence and saddened by the fact that her life ended so soon and so tragically.

I caught “Nothing Underneath” recently and really enjoyed it. It’s the perfect mix of De Palma and Giallo. Plus it’s great to hear Telephone again from Body Double

Cool pickups there mi amico, nice finds. Soledad Miranda was a blossoming talent for sure, her physical presence and soul piercing gaze drawing you in every time. I firmly believe Jess Franco was hopelessly smitten with her, and when she died in that tragic accident, part of him died along with her. Don’t get me wrong, he had some fine gems with Lina Romay, but nothing like with Soledad.

I still need to get my hands on editions of Nothing Underneath and Too Beautiful to Die. The Vinegar Syndrome release is solid, but Nucleus Films in the UK offers English Subtitle translations of the Italian audio.

Bargain of the week!

Picked these up in a charity shop this morning.

Blu ray Star Wars collection - 6 movies plus 3 discs with extras, for the huge price of 20p … Suck on that, George Lucas!

Also for 20p each …

… and

PS: 20p was the asking price, I do give the shop more money than they’re asking for.

One of my favourite TV series of all-time…and most certainly one of the best written. Proud to have it back on my shelf.
