I Just Bought … (Non-SW Shopping Diary)

You’re in for a treat there sir, that’s a brilliant set. They’re all great films but the highlight for me is Throne of Blood, Kurosawa’s take on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. So good, the first time I watched it I immediately watched it again. :+1:

Agree, though I admit I favor Yojimbo, just so much fun and so entertaining.

After watching Oldboy a few months back and, more recently, Train to Busan, I decided I needed to add them to my collection plus explore some more Korean cinema.

A great film loosely based on the investigation of Korea’s first confirmed serial murders.

So far the only Korean language film I’ve seen is The Handmaiden from 1960, which was really well done I have to say. when I was in High School in the early 2000’s, a local access channel used to show these period Korean Dramas set in the Middle Ages that I found very interesting and compelling. Those all look like interesting watches.

The first yard sale find of the year. This is Arrow’s LE set purchased for $3.00. The lady said her hubby was upgrading to 4K so I was more than happy to help provide him shelf space. I can’t help but wonder though if he knew about the bargain price his wife was offering.

Poor bloke probably had a stroke when he found out his wife sold it for $3  What a fantastic find!

That possibility definitely crossed my mind. If it wasn’t me though, it would have been the next movie collector that came along after me so, in that instance, I’m glad that it was me.

That’s one heck of a deal there amigo, I normally shy away from buying DVDs and Blu Rays at yard sales as you never know if the previous owners were film buffs like us and took care of them or if they were just casual movie watchers, and the kids, pets, or various home related stuff caused damage, but for the boutique stuff I might give it a chance.

I definitely understand what you are saying but I’ve found that just a look at the condition of the case and the disk itself will give you a pretty good indication of how well the people took care of their movies. If someone has 30, 40, 100 movies or whatever for sale and all of the cases are in nice shape and the discs are clean (free of scratches and finger smudges) then, generally speaking, they are people that have taken care of their movies. At that point, if it is something I want, I am generally willing to risk the 50 cent or $1.00 asking price that I usually come across (sometimes a bit more for higher end stuff, as in this case) for the chance to get a great deal. With just a little due diligence, I’ve found that yard sales are a very inexpensive way to add to the collection.

Sticking to Japanese films for now. Ordered another Blu-Ray as well, but it wasn’t included in the parcel, even though the information said so. Already contacted customer service and they will refund. Guess I will have to order it again. This never happened to me before.

Arrow Easter sale is a bit disappointing this year but still picked up a few bits:

Earlier today I participated in my first ever crowdfunding campaign, and it’s for the debut release from Malombra Films! :grinning:

Even if everyone can’t partake in the perks, you can still give a standard donation, and even if you can’t do that, please share the link with as many folks as possible, let’s help this company get the start it needs so they can do Road to Fort Alamo as well, and many other titles of course.

Went a bit silly in the Arrow sale. Can’t really afford it, I’ll have to rob Peter to pay Paul for the next week or so, but I didn’t want to pass them up.
