New blu-ray:
And here you go
Edit: Oh and with a release date in 2022
Pre-ordered (out in November):
Nice. It said June 2022 when I posted the link The American release will probably still be the most cost-effective release for me to buy unless the UK one drops to around £100 and I find a customs friendly UK-dealer at that time
Can’t see a Criterion release dropping its price though, tbh. I’m anticipating paying the full £150 here, the irony for me being that I think many of the Showa-era Godzilla pictures are a load of old bumshit. Still: Sod it. I want it. Many thanks for pulling up the link btw, I’d given up checking and just assumed it was forevermore going to be one of their region A exclusives (there’s been a region A locked Criterion blu of the original Godzilla for some years).
EDIT It’s already number four on Amazon UK’s blu-ray chart despite the hefty price, behind only the pre-orders for Avengers: Endgame in blu-ray (no. 1), 4k (no. 2) and 3-D (no. 3).
New blu-ray:
“load of old bumshit”
these movies certainly aren’t for everyone… it’s very cheesy and over the top… the very opposite of the spaghetti western genre.
I watched Godzilla King of the Monster (2019) last week end and it was terrible… I certainly prefer the old ones.
But isn’t the £150 the full retail price and will go down to it’s ‘normal’ price when we get closer to the release date? The American release has a retail price of $225 and started at $200 on Amazon and has now gone down to $165 and hopefully $112 when the Criterion sale starts
A lot of the Showa-era Godzilla movies ARE a load of old bumshit. And tbh I wouldn’t even say that “cheesy and over the top” represented the opposite of the spaghetti western genre either; I’d say that, in that sense at least, many Japanese daikaiju pics and Italian westerns are quite similar. Still, there’s plenty there for me to love anyway. Just like with the spags!
I haven’t caught that one yet but yes, I prefer the Toho movies to these technically superior Legendary movies (although I did enjoy Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, so I’ll probably enjoy Godzilla: King of the Monsters too). But I think that, with only a couple of exceptions (the original movie being the most obvious example), all the best Godzilla movies sit within the Heisei and Millennium eras.
I certainly hope so! I’d love to pay a little less, especially that close to Christmas. I’m not holding my breath though. Criterion are tighter than a gnat’s chuff.
I enjoyed Kong Skull Island quite a lot: 70s atmosphere, lots of actions and humours and overall very entertaining.
I hated Godzilla 2014 because the whole film is very dark, very slow and pretty boring… to me this does not represent what a fun Godzilla\Kaiju film should be.
Shin Godzilla 2016 was a bit better but still very slow paced and too much politics….
some of my favorite godzilla films are Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (74) and it’s sequel Terror of Mechagodzilla (75)… wihtout forgetting King Kong vs Godzilla in 1962… the japanese version and not the butchered american cut.
Latetly I’ve been browsing around filling my cart with stuff and then when It comes to the check out I go ”…Naaah” and delete eveything…
Fulci’s Zombie in Blue Undergrounds new restoration arrived today:
I opted for that cover aswell.

Also, mrs.caress pre-ordered the Arrow special editions of Robocop and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas for me to find in my Christmas stocking this year. I’ll buy that for a dollar!

Just ordered this for a good price off ebay:
New blu-ray:
Never seen it and, despite having enjoyed the first one, never felt especially inclined to see it either. Maybe I’d never found Trainspotting (Boyle, 1996) to be a movie in need of a sequel. Still, I spied this blu-ray on the local market, brand new, for a single, splendid pound and thought, why not? If it’s shit, it can go straight in the bin.
It’s actually a lot funnier than the original … in a very dark way. I would have gladly spent a quid for it.
New blu-rays:
Thought I’d take advantage of the Arrow Academy Buy-One-Get-One-Free offer that’s been on for awhile now. Mmm, highbrow.
