FRIDAY THE 13th Part 3 (1982)

If you’ve never seen this film in 3-D (and I’m not talking about the poor presentation on the Paramount disc), you’re really missing out. One has to see Rick’s eyeball explode from his skull in glorious 3-D to truly get the desired effect.

This film also marks the debut of the infamous hockey mask. And what about Manfredini’s ultra-cool disco theme song?

“You never mean tuh!”

FRIDAY THE 13th The Final Chapter

Joe Zito and Tom Savini (the pair that brought us THE PROWLER) return to finish off the Sultan of Slaughter.

Most people remember this film for Crispin Glover’s dance moves, but I’ve always most enjoyed Jason’s brainpan slide down the machete. That’s probably my favorite kill in the series.

Of course, this wasn’t the end of the series, but what a way for the film to end…

“He’s killing me! He’s killing me!”

Sorry, couldn’t end this post without muttering the funniest lines in the whole shebang!

“The computer don’t lie.”

Watched the original Black Christmas . Amazing how scary it is with almost no gore (and almost no budget) Great movie!

Good call bro!

BLACK CHRISTMAS is definitely a goodie. Tons of atmosphere to be found in that film.

FRIDAY THE 13th Part V A New Beginning

Roy Burns, our pseudo-Sultan, does an impressive job on the killing as he steps in for Jason. Have to admit that I wish the filmmakers would have continued on with Tommy being the killer in the next installment rather than resurrecting the Sultan (but enough about that until I revisit the next sequel).

Jason Lives! FRIDAY THE 13th Part VI

This is where my love for the franchise totally derailed. I was anticipating the return of Tommy as the killer, but instead received a resurrected Sultan. And the awful humor doesn’t help matters, either. I will admit that I like the banter between the two kids, and the 007 opening isn’t too shabby, but the rest…? Meh.

This was also the first time I ever heard anyone in the audience saying they wouldn’t be back for another sequel. At the time, I felt the same way. But my love for F13 and the Sultan overrode that and I was back for THE NEW BLOOD… oh well, huh?

Recently viewed Jason Lives and its actually my favorite of the bunch, although I haven’t seen many of them in a very long time (and probably won’t still for a much longer time). I did watch The Final Chapter just prior, which I didn’t care for much aside from the weird ending

I know a lot of F13 fans that cite JASON LIVES as their favorite. It’s just never been one of mine. Never cared for the Zombie Sultan.

I’m not hugely keen on Jason Lives. I mean it’s pretty good, but it’s far from the best Friday the 13th IMO, and yes, it IS touted by many as among the best of the bunch.

Personally speaking, the best ones are Final Chapter and the much-maligned A New Beginning. NOBODY likes that one ;D. Oh, and Jason X is a lot of fun too, despite being about as silly as you like.

I really like ANB. And yeah, JASON X is fun and silly. I remember going to see that one on opening day and there was people walking out of the theater. Ha!

And you’d probably be surprised at how many people like ANB. Well, at least in slasher circles it’s highly held… heh.

Last night i watched The Black Cat (1934) with Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. I hadn’t seen it for a long long time and i had forgotten how weird and creepy the film was. What a treat it is to watch Karloff and Lugosi, they were great and it looked like they were having fun. It’s not that scary, but i enjoyed watching it anyways.

Tower Of Evil - Someone is killing whoever visits Snape Island, is there a reason or are they deranged? I watched the Scorpion Blu Ray last night, it has quite a nice transfer. I hadn’t seen it for at least twenty years, last time I saw it was on the Iver tape.

The Beast Within - Ronny Cox’s wife gets raped by a monster on their honeymoon and 17 years later their son starts to act a bit differently. The Shout Factory Blu Ray has a really nice transfer, nice and crisp. This was the first time I’ve seen it uncut, the U.K. version had over a minute hacked out of it by the BBFC.

The Mummy - I recently bought this Universal Monsters box set and as The Mummy was one of two I never got around to seeing before (The other one is The Invisible Man) I thought I’d watch it first. You’d never think a film 80 years old could look so good.

Mrs.caress bought me this for Christmas. It’s excellent, isn’t it?

FRIDAY THE 13th Part VII The New Blood

May 13, 2008… Jason Is Back, But This Sometime Is Waiting!

The Sultan versus Carrie has always been the best way to sum up this film. On opening night, I immediately loved it. I thought Kane was great, Jason’s make-up was fantastic, and really could dig the sleeping bag kill.

Unfortunately, time hasn’t been kind to this movie. I now find it a bore. And I’m no longer a fan of Kane.

THE PROWLER

Joseph Zito and Tom Savini (both who powered F13:TFC) originally teamed for this 1981 slasher film. Though it’s rather pedestrian, with a long middle that doesn’t seem to go anywhere, the movie really needs viewed for its explicit violence. Death scenes are captured in all their elegance in THE PROWLER, and there’s no cutting away. It also supports the best shotgun decapitation scene this side of the original MANIAC (which Savini also did).

If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend it.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

Though I found the remake to be “meh” at best, I thoroughly enjoy the original film. Tons of atmosphere in the suffocating mine systems as our sacrificial lambs attempt to escape our resident slasher.

For years, this was only available in its cut form. I was dying for an uncut release, and finally got one. Now I rarely watch that and always stick to the theatrical version. Go figure.

Either way, gore or not, you can’t go wrong with a trip into the Hanniger Mines. Just too bad we never got a sequel…

Recommended.

I also thought that was a decent little thriller
