I know we have a Kung Fu thread but i thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to the Shaw brothers studios as they made films in a whole spectrum of different genres not just Kung Fu films.

Kung Fu is one of the few genres of cinema I like besides spaghettis. But I only like the early ones from the 70’s, Hong Kong productions with Bruce Lee of course, and Jimmy Wang Yu, Lo Lieh and some others. Some Japanese ones are also pretty good. I don’t like the newer ones, 80’s and upwards, they just don’t have the same atmosphere at all. And if they tried to make spaghettis nowadays it would be the same thing, not the right atmosphere! I think John Woo deserves his own topic and poll. Great action movies director, who made what is, in my opinion a trilogy of the best action movies ever - The Killer, Bullet In The Head and Hard-Boiled. He was also clearly influenced by the directorial style of master Leone. It’s sad that after he went to USA he wasn’t able to come up with great movies like his HK ones.
