His Name Was King / Lo chiamavano King (Giancarlo Romitelli, 1971)

People crap on this one but I have always enjoyed it!

The short appearance of Federico Boido is one of the very few highlights of this flick. The song ist great. Kinski is a universe of its own. It’s not his best performance but he acts in his typically way. I’m satisfied.

Nevertheless, I had fun with this movie.

I need to rewatch this. I remember losing interest in this one around the half way mark and not finishing.

My opinion too. Only got this cheap French DVD. It’s not too bad. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems to me, that Kinski dubs himself in the french version. I’m not sure about that…..

I think Wobble’s post from Jan 23 pretty much sums up my thoughts on this one, articulating things better than I could.

One of the worst entries into the genre (that I’ve seen thus far), saved slightly by a nice soundtrack, some decent action sequences and Kinski’s small role.

2.5/10. The plot was too choppy and disjointed for me. First half of the film was painfully slow with too many filler scenes. Second half did pick up a tad, but was probably let down by the unnecessary rape scene (not a fan of these). Too many characters flying around too (also not a fan of that).

I think everything of interest about the plot is told in the lyrics of the excellent theme song
