I watched this on You Tube - Italian version with English Subtitles (fan created? - pretty accurate translation of the Italian from what I could determine). It ran 87m - I assume it was a copy of the Italian DVD so 87m is PAL and this would equate to about 90m NTSC, 12m short of the 102m running time signed off by the Italian censor.
I doubt if an extra 12m of this would improve coherence. However, I thought several scenes had clearly been censored including the killing of Adjutant Roger and the hanging of the bloke in the town square, including the CU of his face when General Drugs turns up, which was the most obvious cut.
This is a spaced-out druggie movie that it is very 1960s and reminded me of the pop-art spy movie, Modesty Blaise (Kevin Grant mentions this also) and also Help!. The guy that did the costumes, Piero Gherardi, was Felliniās costumer and had six Oscar nominations. I did find some of the jokes funny and some of it worked but the script was a mess and it was so disjointed. I found it bizarre that the French characters were the āheroesā; I guess thatās why its an āanti-westernā! Claudio Camaso was even more deranged than usual and totally out of control. Quite low budget as well - only one angle for the jail scenes and a American town that looked like a typical Mexican town.
For fans of Nicoletta it is probably a 3 Kleenex box movie. Her dresses were amazing. She should have killed more people though. She sits out the big fight in the town. I also appreciated the Silvana Bacci dance.
Weisserās entry on this one is particularly poor and his error in naming the Yorgo Voyagis character as the deposed Mexican President Benito Juarez, leader of the Mexican forces against the dictator Maximilian, has even crept into this database.
Yes someone created english subs, I donāt know of any official release with english subs, so itās probably this one on Youtube.
