Forum feedback, questions and issues

I can’t seem to embed YT clips today, maybe it’s a temporary error?

A sensible internet forum should look like the classical style forum so you get an overview.

Most forums still look like this, and that works for both phones and computers by the way.

It’s also nice to be able to see at the front page who are logged in, creates a familiar atmosphere.

Are you talking about this forum here? You’re a few years late with your feedback  The switch happened over a decade ago. And we purposely said goodbye to the old 1990s style forums, like most good communities have. It is super phone compatible, has a powerful search and it’s easy to find things. As for logged in uses, there are some technical reasons why this doesn’t exist, but you can go to the users list, sort by recently active and that’s pretty much it… but I agree it would be nice to “see” who’s in the bar when you enter it

Of course I’m talking about this forum.

Yes I saw that thread, nobody liked the forum’s new look. They were polite though and said they’ll get used to it.

You can search for things on other forum’s as well, this one is not better in any way.

anything you’re not finding with search?

What a weird question.

Who has said anything about not finding things?

If it doesn’t exist on the forum then I can’t find it of course.

Also I don’t like that people can see in real time when you’re editing a post. If you want to change or add something I prefer to write and then be able to preview before posting.

the preview is right there next to the editor itself

Also having this problem… not sure where that comes from at the moment

Of course I’ve seen the preview, you can’t miss it.

You misunderstand, when someone has posted and are making changes, it is visible to others if you’re looking at that post.

You can see in real time people making edits.

And you see this as a problem?

Yes I do.

and why?

I want to make changes or add things on my own before presenting it.

Not sure if there’s a misunderstanding here. Unless you press “reply” or “post”, what you type isn’t visible to others.

Oh, but it is, I saw hammerfist making changes back and forth in the Companeros thread earlier today.

Before you post a new post it’s not visible, but if you edit a post that is already in the forum it is visible.

Well that’s probably because he edited it multiple times. The post is only updated when the user presses the ‘Save Edit’ button while editing. You can’t see what they are typing in real time?

Then he changed his post quite quickly while you were typing your reply and then pressed “save” (I just did with this sentence)? As the forum doesn’t need a browser refresh to show changes it might have seemed like in real time…
Generally, you would only see changes to posts once they’ve been submitted (which isn’t real time, but ex-post, like an edit history in a wiki). And you can see the fact that someone is editing their post, which helps to not reply to outdated arguments too much.
Another edit: edits made directly after submitting a post, such that are made just seconds after, are not recorded as separate edits it seems but attributed to the original posting action.

Yes ok, maybe it’s like you say, hammerfist made several changes in a short time.

What overview are you thinking of? There are some alternate views that you can select, such as by clicking on “categories”
