Forum feedback, questions and issues

Now you’re just pretending to not understand.

You know perfectly well what I mean.

And I’ve said also I know about the different categories.

I don’t, I am honestly interested in your feedback, but I need more substantiation other than claiming this isn’t a sensible forum and the search is no better than others etc. What specifically do you need or would like to behave differently etc.? I can look into tweaks to settings, or keep an eye out in which direction the forum software is being developed etc,but general disatisfaction isn’t going to help much after we’ve had these discussions for the most part 6 or so years ago when we switched to this forum software, which is one of the best on the market btw, and it has evolved niceley since then.
but maybe we let this rest for a while and revisit later then  and of course no technical tool can make everyone happy at the same time

I really don’t agree. A lot of the other film forums I have visited are still using data layouts that date back to the old era of the internet. Just because the forum itself is old doesn’t mean its layout should still be.

The SWDb’s layout is fantastic. Simple while also still having some styling, easy to navigate and find threads, easy to use categories, and its works flawlessly on smartphones which is the main benefit. I rarely ever use other forums such as the blu-ray.com forums on my mobile as they simply do not work well on phones.

Seb and the other admins do a great job of constantly updating older pages to make them more uniform and I really appreciate all the hard work they’ve put into the site.

For comparison on how good the SWDb works on mobile:

Compared to:

Yeah, the smartphone people like the forum since it’s optimised for smartphones, the ones who use computers prefer the classical style forum.

Haha, yeah the blu-ray website is complete shit on mobile. Constant zooming in.

Eh, not really. I’d say about 75% of my time on here in via PC and I still prefer the modern layout. A constant issue I have is with classic style forum layouts is that many areas are hidden down a path of multiple links and pages. The icon bar at the top of this database is a lifesaver, and allows me to quickly access every feature and area of the forum via 1 or 2 clicks.

I don’t have this problem, don’t know what forums you frequent though.

Anyway, keep up the good work even if I find the forum a bit of a pain.

I would still like to hear about precisely what about it makes it painful? maybe we can enlighten with some tips and tricks, but of course old habits are a factor (objectively) and if one is used to 90s style message board UX, then this might be challenging, even if it’s already a couple years old (Discourse, that is, but so are some of its closest competitors)

I’m getting ‘# Error 503 Backend fetch failed’ for the main site but not having problems accessing the Forum. It’s the 3rd time in a week.

the forum or the SWDb itself? the forum should work fine, the main site is under DOS attack for the third time this week, so that would track

The Forum is fine. It’s the SWDb itself. I was just checking that wasn’t just me. Thanks.

Blocked all manner of stuff and now it’s working again. Don’t think it was a sustainable solution but hey  unless someone donates a few million bucks we will have to live with this

Shit, that didn’t hold for long…

I was just coming here to say that. Oh well, I’ll come back tomorrow.

Something is definitely going ‘Planet of the Apes-shit’ here, on SWDB!

Can’t access the site either

Yeah it’s hit by a DDOS attack again, and honestly, no idea how to stop it short of subscribing to CloudFlare or something… I need to sleep on it, as it would add more than 5 bucks a month to the tab… and put me in dependence of yet another major corporation

Same issue I have been seeing recently - accessing SWDB depends on which search link I use!
