Female Gunfighters in Westerns

Is there any western film/book/etc that has a female gunslinger? Since there isn’t too many of them although I do remember seeing one in the film El Topo (which was a female counterpart of the main character) and also “The Quick and the Dead” but is there others?

Well basically is there any films that depict stronger female characters in the western genre especially them as gunfighters?

Female Gunfighters in Westerns?
there is no room for female gunfighters
only in new trash movies like a tomp raider or resident evil

I’m seriously hoping your joking or being sarcastic.

Also Tomb Raider and Resident Evil aren’t westerns either.

Few sw’s come to mind

Belle Starr Story
Garter Colt

i’am very seriously

Then I don’t see how you would contribute anything in this thread and yes there is room for female gunslingers in the Western genre as your already proven wrong long ago.

Yes, as Bill says, Belle Starr and Garter Colt are the most obvious ones that spring to mind in terms of Spaghettis. I guess you could also include Lola Colt and even Little Rita of the West at a stretch.

Here are the links to all these films anyway.

There also a 50s Roger Corman western with a female Sheriff and a of course the disappointing Bandidas with Cruz and Hayek from the last years.

And the classic Johnny Guitar.

And of course Hannie Caulder. How did I forget Raquel? :o

In terms of Hollywood westerns there is also the quite poor Bad Girls from 1994. Bad Girls (1994) - IMDb

While one of my favorite western films with a woman protagonist is The Ballad of Little Jo from 1993. In reality, Jo doesn’t really qualify as a gunfighter, rather a woman who poses as a man in order to be left alone while trying to live in the west, but it is a very good film in my opinion and worth seeing. Little Jo - Eine Frau unter Wölfen (1993) - IMDb

That can’t even be called a Freudian omission, Phil, that’s almost, almost a mortal sin
There’s no real excuse, but yesterday, when I was young, some people thought 50 Hail Maries and 50 Lord’s Prayers might help

The Ballad of Little Jo: thought I had watched it, and was surprised to find out you liked it. Some research told me I was mixing things up, I was thinking of this movie (which is nothing special):

not many movies about female gunfighters, and its a shame

but you can try also Les Petroleuses, its about female gunslinger gang, with Claudia Cardinale and Briggite Bardot, a perfect example

Joe D´Amato´s Calamity Jane 1 & 2

i´m getting old or what
another one is 100 Rifles, again Raquel Welch
now i have to take those 50 Hail Maries - its only solution

yeah, i knew i forgot something
Viva Maria by Louis Malle, this is almost a female zapata western

and if you like comics, you can try to find somewhere Fistful of Blood by Simon Bisley, not much of a plot,
but you get instead a pretty voluptuous heroine ;D

I do feel a deep sense of shame but am not a catholic so hail marys won’t help. Maybe I could say a few Hail Rosalbas instead? Or Nieves even?

Ballad of Little Jo is a nice film Scherp which I think you might like too. No action to speak of but good characterisations, nice direction and some fine acting. Ian McKellen is a stand out as I recall.

Your choice: Nine Nieves or a Rosary of Rosalbas

Ida galli e volta!

Hard to believe nobody mentioned this one:

Greatest poster ever!

by the way, is there any fandubs available for Garter Colt?

UPDATE: Never mind, I’ve read a couple of reviews, it looks like a shit film. The posters looked promising though. Macchiavelli as a female gunfighter? Terrific premise. If only the execution followed suit.

Have been told by a friend their are fan made english subtitles for Garter Colt, but not got my hands on them yet.

Is their a female gunslinger in Kill The Wickeds ?

Yes, and even more than her Matalo counterpart
