Nope, never had a problem with him myself… To me, at least 2 of the westerns he did are pretty lighthearted and he fits in with that well. In fact i think he did fine in all 3 films and i like each of them. His hair is a bit of an annoyance but he’s far from the only guy in an SW to have bad hair! (Or a smug, cheesy grin for that matter!)
Anyone knew that Byrnes had a small part in Grease ;D?
I think he would’ve been alright with more beard and a different haircut.
You know, i never really minded the guy in SW’s either. All 3 were kind of light hearted for the most part so he seemed to fit in OK. If they’d been much darker ones then maybe he wouldn’t have been appropriate but as it stands…no problems with him here.
I’ve never seen Byrnes in a Spaghetti and the films he was in don’t interest me much at all.

Didn’t care much for Any Gun Can Play, but I did like Red Blood, Yellow Gold.

Thought so. After seeing it’s trailer on quite a lot of US releases (VCI actually) I immediatley assumed it was just a poor mans GBU. Without the, ahem…greatness.

Any Gun Can Play is surely not a classic, but it is quite watchable. Good roles for Hilton an Roland. Could have become much better directed by Carnimeo or Parolini, and of course without any stupid fistfights.
And Byrnes? Well, meanwhile I somehow can’t find him annoying anymore in a SW, especially after lately rewatching 7 Guns for a Massacre.
But he surely hasn’t any typical SW looks.
