Steffen is a much more likeable actor than Byrnes or than he gets credit for.
While Fidani actors are still fun, this guy is really bad for an SW.
Steffen is great.

Byrnes, nothing wrong with Steffen.
I don’t really a fan of Steffen but I think he was great in No room to die and Django the bastard. Powers is also not that bad and I like the Fidani actors as well especially Jeff Cameron.
Byrnes looked always anachronistic in his 3 SWs
I’ve seen a few Ivan Rassimov westerns and while I like him, he seems every bit as wooden as Steffen. Nobody ever criticized his acting though. It seems Steffen is the only dude whos gets criticized for being wooden when other actors are just as wooden as well.
I never criticized Steffen. But Byrnes is not good!
But Rassimov is not wooden, Steffen often is. Rassimov has a screen presence for me, Steffen often not.
Steffen has the looks of a SW hero on photos, but on the screen he mostly looks phony. And Byrnes or Peter Lee Lawrence are also phony looking actors in SWs.
IMO Steffen is sometimes great, sometimes really bad and sometimes just an SW standard actor.

Once again our oil and water tastes shines through LOL.
? Had me reaching for the ole cyber dictionary on that one ![]()
I like Steffan but wooden could fit. Remember, most of these SW leads are playing of Eastwood’s ‘no name although he has names’ character. They are playing emotionless roles imitating the success of those Leone’s. Even Clint deviates from that formula albeit barely. I like Steffan in Clifford Joe. It allows him to have some fun. A refreshing change.
EB is out of place in ANGCP but the whole movie is just a parred down version of other SW’s of the time anyway.
And ANGCP is…?
Any Gun Can Play
Thanks. Only film with Byrnes I’ve seen.

There is a difference between wooden and under acting.
Eastwood was then also often despised as a wooden actor. And he ain’t a great actor in the sense of Laurence Olivier, Gene Hackman, Jean Gabin or Edward Norton. But Eastwood has an undeniable charisma while Steffen seems to be just blank. Their looks are not too different but otherwise there are worlds between them.
Seems so, but that’s not a bad thing.
Its the reason why you are one of my favorite people on the forum.
That’s it, Stanton!
