Spanish Scalps should be in 1.85:1 while X-Rated is just 1.66:1 but I won’t sell my X-Rated DVD yet as the Spanish release could still have worse picture quality. X-Rated DVD isn’t anamorphic even though back cover promises it to be. Spanish release is also going to be just letterboxed. Damn.
Apache Kid / White Apache is not too good. Very basic story about white boy adopted by indians and later fighting on their side against extremely racist whites (expect lots of exaggerated racist dialogue…). The problem is that Sebastian Harrison (son of Richard Harrison) doesn’t know a thing about acting but he is good-looking in a very generic way and so he does nothing but tries to “look good” which becomes very annoying very soon. Strange mix of gory scenes, love story and Harrison’s boy band charisma make it a very uneven film. Quite disappointing film compared to Scalps, which has more real spaghetti western feel, has better story, actors, music…

Wait for some reviews, guys. I have two DVDs from Suevia, one is anamorphic and OK (Per 100.000 dollari ti ammazzo), the other (10.000 dollari per un massacro) is NOT anamorphic and picture quality is really horrible. Both DVDs are without subtitles and audio quality is far from great.
This one is 4/3 and 1,85 : 1, so not anamorphic, letterboxed.
I have my doubts about the aspect ratio too; many films in the '80s were 1,66 : 1 (due to VHS!). Later some of them were ‘cropped’ to 1,85 : 1. Therefore it’s possible that X-rated has more visual info top and bottem.
The cover of the x-rated release of Scalps says its 1.77:1 but I guess it could be false. Haven’t time to check the disc itself at the moment. I’ll definitely stick with the x-rated release. This is one of the lesser later spaghetti westerns and the picture quality itself of the x-rated release is pretty fine.

Good film halfway between Zorro movie and “real” spaghetti western, like Quintana or Starblack. Interesting sotry, good score, lots of action. I didn’t expect much from this film so I was pleasantly surprised. Watch the trailer and you know what to expect.

‘The Magnificent Texan’ wasn’t bad but wasn’t really good as well ! As it was said before something between Zorro and Quintana !!! Watched the ex-rental by ‘Present Video’ under the title ‘Desperado-Der geheimnisvolle Rächer’ !!!

Yes, the releases I’ve got from New Entertainment has been more or less fine quality so I expect the same from this one. This is a great movie so deserves a decent release.
