a classic haselbeck. always time for some sexy off-topic ![]()
Saw this at the weekend. It never feels like you are watching a Eurowestern (but as others have said, why should there be?), but plenty of nods in that direction, from little tributes to Corbucci (nobody here could miss them) to the blending of historical veracity (sets, costumes, hardware) with anachronisms and hyper-violence. I deliberately avoided fan reviews beforehand so I was (pleasantly) surprised when the credits rolled to the accompaniment of Bacalovâs âDjangoâ theme. Visually it is not as dynamic as I had hoped - obviously some sequences stand out more than others - but that doesnât detract from the overall experience. Itâs also very funny - a scene involving the KKK had the audience in stitches.
The pace is fine - it does begin to crawl when they reach Leo DiCaprioâs mansion, but at least there is tension to sustain it. And there is plenty of action and incident in the final third.
Acting is fine (even Tarantinoâs cameo isnât too irksome, and his scene ends magnificently), with special plaudits for Sam Jackson. Waltz is also very good, although he suffers the most from Tarantinoâs surfeit of smartass dialogue.
Yes, itâs an angry tirade against slavery and racism, but the tone veers so wildly, especially once Jamie Foxx gets into gunfighter mode, somehow that message gets lost. I canât imagine Tarantino making âseriousâ cinema; I think he will stick to loving and skilfully assembled pastiches. This is one of his best.
Yeah Bill I spotted him, heâs towards the beginning when King Shultz and Django ride into the town and a guy comes out of a building with a woman and says"I just saw a nigger ride in a horse" thatâs him.
The only cameo i didnât spot was Tom Wopat from( Dukes of Hazzard series. It was nice to see James Remar in double roles, ivâe always liked Remarâs work, especially in the WARRIORS film.
What was Remarâs other character? I must admit I didnât spot it.
in the beginning, one of the specks.
and towards the end, calvinâs guy in the melon hat

Wouldnât mind a set of these, sadly pulled because of complainers and now selling for silly money.

At least no ones bidding on those ones
At the moment one of those has 35 bids with price gone up to $405.00.
Why were they pulled off the market? What were the complaints about?
I thought it was about because of complaints about the irony of having a slave as a puppet.
Thats what I had read aswell.
A lot of us Europeans were enslaved by the Romans etc, we donât bang on about it all the time. Of course slavery is wrong but itâs been and gone (apart from âhiddenâ modern day slavery) but people like Spike Lee always have to bring up about it disrespecting their ancestors etc. If anything heâs more racist the other way round.
What if âDo The Right Thingâ was remade by an Italian film maker and the roles were all reversed. Spike Lee would be the first to yell racism. Fucking hypocrite.
