@Talby_Baker & @Wobble Thank you so much :folded_hands:

As I understand it the Italian version of the song was only ever a record, after the fact. It was never part of the actual film.

Yes it seems the one with italian lyrics was only on record, there were a couple, and also a couple of instrumental versions on record. All of these released in the 1960s.

I think Tarantinos list of favourite SW is quite a good guide for starters.
My personal favourites, besides the Leone classics, are The Great Silence, The Big Gundown, and the Mercenary (and it’s remake, Companeros). Django is certainly also quite a good one.
I also really liked ā€œKill them all and come back aloneā€, and ā€œDeath rides a horseā€ (the music on that one was great).

I would avoid ā€œMy Name is Nobodyā€ (even the great Henry Fonda couldn’t save it), as you can clearly tell the director and his co-directors had massive differences as to what type of movie they were making (whether to make it a goofy comedy, or a dramatic epic about the end of the wild west).
ā€The Specialistsā€ didn’t impress me (although it wasn’t bad - just rather average), and ā€œKeomaā€ would be a masterpiece if it didn’t have that awful singing sprinkled throughout the movie (cats fighting in a dumpster would produce a more pleasant sound to listen to).

Remake is the wrong term, it is a variation of the themes and the style of The Mercenary.

Similar Django is a variation of FoD, while FoD is indeed a remake, of Yojimbo.

For My Name Is Nobody I have a quite different view, I would recommend it to every genre fan. An extremely well directed film with some great stuff in it. But yes, the balance between comedy and the dramatic scenes is problematic in places. Still in my top 10.

QT’s list is indeed a good starting place, but better is the forum’s top 20: Essential Top 20 Films - The Spaghetti Western Database

A list compiled by 200 SW fans (QT is amongst them), and you can contribute in the voting thread:

It’s personal taste Django got me into the genre 25 years ago and I also consider My Name Is Nobody one of the absolute best spaghetti westerns.

Thanks for the hint, I’ll definitely be voting there.
