[Blu-ray] Latest and Upcoming Releases šŸ“€

Oh, awesome! I just got a T-shirt, not gonna drop $25 on a blu just yet, much less one I’ve got already on dvd, but I’m happy to support them!
So Day of Anger will be the first release from Arrow Video’s new stateside project…I’m sure there will be a UK release too so it looks like we will have region A and B covered. New Restoration done by Arrow as well…so looking forward to this

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/arrow-video-usa
I think it’s disgusting that they are doing a kickstarter project. Things like this should be for fledgling and smaller companies.

Well, I really just see it as a way to tell if there’s a support base here in the States. Really all the perks boil down to is just preorders and merchendise.

I think most of the time Kickstarter and Indiegogo stuff is kinda silly… but in this case, at least the price for a blu ray is basically the same as what you’d pay retail for it… a lot of times these kinds of projects want a $50 donation for a blu ray or dvd.

Postman just knocked, didn’t even realise it was despatched yet. Wild East’s first Blu, let’s hope for many more.

Love to see how it looks!

Me too! I’m eager to know how their first blu looks.

Well dip me in shit and sprinkle breadcrumbs over me. Arrow is expanding to the US and their first release on Blu will be DAY OF FUCKING ANGER!!!

Yeah I saw, there’s an Indiegogo campaign to raise $100,000 to start up a US line. Last I checked they were at about $15,000!

I just hope all their Bava and Argento releases get the US treatment. Would love to see Kino Lorber get bent over and fucked.

Haha! Have not yet gotten a Kino blu, passed on Sabata since it wasn’t really worth the money, now I’m thinking of holding back on the Kidnapped blu. How is that release?

BU’s Companeros Blu is reviewed here CompaƱeros

There’s barely any HD detail left in the caps. Maybe it’s just another LVR disaster and BU decided it was better to DNR it than to leave all the noise in there.

Or maybe I’m just an idiot.

Just glancing at the shots and it does look pretty DNR’d or something… maybe will do a comparison if I can scrape together some patience in the next days

Pretty disappointing

The transfer on the US DVDs of Companeros is around ~11 years old now so it probably does look much worse than the new Blu. Maybe. :stuck_out_tongue:
This shot http://mondo-digital.com/companeros4big.jpg from the Blu looks quite bad to me. :\

On another news, based on the Duck You Sucker thread at blu-ray.com, it seems the new US Blu-Ray might use the old (2007?) master that was used for the DVD and not the new (2013?) Italian master.

That might be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you feel about the colors of the Italian BD. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah none of those Companeros shots look very impressive, really… faces on all look kinda waxy or something, not much detail at all

DYS… hmmm… haven’t looked at all the shots and I don’t know anything about the Italian master, but that one screenshot you linked, the sky looks nice and blue on the MGM compared to the Italian

I’ll wait to see more comparisons before making a final call as to whether Companeros will be worth picking up, but there is a worrying lack of fine detail, especially in this cap: http://mondo-digital.com/companeros6big.jpg. Dissapoiting stuff from BU.

Actually, the Italian release does have blue skies (see here: http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleiche/multi_comparison.php?disc1=3713&disc2=3714&cap1=34381&cap2=34391&art=full&image=7&hd_multiID=1542&action=1&lossless=#vergleichhttp://mondo-digital.com/companeros6big.jpg), and the MGM DVD appears to be cropped in comparison (as were their other Leone DVDs), so it seems like MGM are going for the cheap option yet again when it comes to the BDs (i.e. their poor two Dollars releases).

Well keep in mind that the MGM blu ray, even if it uses the same master as the old DVD, may be cropped differently as the DVD could have been cropped from the master.

The Italian Blu of DYS looks mostly fine to me but it does seem like it has some details blown out (the houses on left, screenshot 7) because of contrast issues. Jesse James on the comments section seems to think it has been perfectly transferred and shows exactly what is on the negative… but if the details are not on the original negative then how come they are on the shitty DVD? :stuck_out_tongue:

And the English soundtrack on the disc is out of sync. :stuck_out_tongue:

nice artwork. I already pitched in on their Indiegogo campaign. Y’all should to likewise
