It will apparently use the Ripleyās restoration of the film from 2007, the same that is on the Italian and German Blu-rays (those two have some very slight contrast differences or something like that between them if I remember correctly).
The Italian Blu has the English mono only in a lossy format and the German disc in lossless? But the Italian disc has English subs for the Italian track while the German does not? Or do I remember totally incorrectly?
According to a post at the blu-ray.com forums the listings for this Japanese Blu do not mention English mono, only 5.1 and 2.0 stereo. But what is the truth.
Did not know the German release lacks subtitles for Italian track⦠thatās a bummer if so, but I guess not a dealbreaker as Iād likely always watch these particular films in English
Well actually I always just assumed the English subs on the German disc are for the English track. And the last time I checked the available subs on the Italian disc was in 2009 maybe so⦠I just have this memory of them not matching with the English track so assumed they are for the Italian⦠but⦠;D
Has Koch put out any info regarding the upcoming Bullet For The General release compared to the Blue Underground disc?
I remember previously I bought the Koch DVD because something was better about it which Iāve since forgotten. Also the BU blu rays seem to suffer from a common issue with whoever they get their transfers from.
11th September. Since it is from Divisa HV/Mercury Films it will probably look much worse than what a DVD can do. But who knows, at least one or two out of their recent dozens of Blus (I think 10-12 Blus per month since February or was it March this year) looks ok.
DVDGo lists only Spanish and Italian audio.
How is this blu ray, Sundance? I am thinking about getting it but canāt find any info. Although may wait and see if Kino releases here in US as part of their classic MGM series.
I donāt have any screenshots from the DVD to compare it to and couldnāt find any from the net either. :-[ Only English audio and no subtitles, and I think the English audio is only DD 2.0 448 kbps so DVD quality?
The same company released also Viva Maria. And Navajo Joe.
Kinoās will probably look about the same as I suspect all the Viva Maria, Navajo Joe, Death Rides A Horse, Sabata and Hills Run Red discs are from the same masters that were used by MGM in around 2005 for their DVDs. But who knows.
Viva Maria has already been announced by Kino, coming 4/11/14. MGM seem to be supplying relatively old HD masters to all the boutique labels, not just Kino, i.e. Twilight Time.
Awesome, thanks for the info & screenshots Sundance. Iāve got the Japanese SPO DVD for Hills Run Red so I can do a comparison there. Iām not totally sure how the SPO compares to the MGM release, but I chose not to buy it because it was going to be pretty much same quality from what I remember
I forgot there is also a Koch DVD release for Hills Run Red, so I think I will probably grab a copy of that one and use it for screenshot comparisons since surely it will be best DVD releaseā¦
After looking at the SPO dvd again, Iām thinking surely the MGM dvd must be a bit better⦠but here are screen comparisons of SPO dvd vs the AU blu:
I think Iāll probably get that AU Hills Run Red if I can find it at a decent price by the time Iāve ordered some more important titles. Seems unlikely that this film will see more blu releases any time soon, and probably not any better. Looks pretty similar to the Koch DVD, but very nice on the color levels. Just a bit pricy ordering from US, as seems to always be the case with these AU blus.
Anyone happen to know a good source to order these AU titles from aside from Amazon?
Let us know if you'd buy MAN, PRIDE AND VENGEANCE on Blu-ray. We're currently on the fence due to the last couple Spaghetti Western Blu-rays underperforming, and poor presales on next month's COMPANEROS Blu-ray release. Please get your COMPANEROS pre-order in if you want to see more Spaghetti Westerns on Blu-ray...
Nice cover for the proposed Man, Pride and Vengeance BD:
Hopefully Companeros turns out to be a good release, as itās one Iād like to see in HD.
I agree, I love their blus, my only complaint is that thereās no new content on them that would be a marked improvement on the DVD except the Bullet for a General blu which had the Gian Maria Volonte doc on it. The quality as well isnāt that much better than the DVDās either, save perhaps Django, buth thatās a no-brainer for blu : If they came out with new spaghetti content, Man, Pride, and Vengeance not counting, offered on blu-ray and dvd right off the bat, like for example if The Grand Duel was offered in blu and DVD when it came out, then I think more people would bite on it.
So Day of Anger will be the first release from Arrow Videoās new stateside projectā¦Iām sure there will be a UK release too so it looks like we will have region A and B covered. New Restoration done by Arrow as wellā¦so looking forward to this
