I agree - right now itās all down to personal preference. The Italian restorations recently seem to push for a yellow tint; whether this is accurate or not is debatable and the Ripley Filmās statement is very convincing.
A slightly OT question: I think Iām right in saying that the Italian extended DVD of Once Upon a Time in the West was sourced from Leoneās own print, and it is quite yellow (comparison caps here: [url]http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare/onceuponatimeinthewest.htm[/url]), is that due to the degrading of the colours or is it possible that international prints had a different colour timing?
The good thing with AFOD is that if the new restoration does come out somewhere (I would think it willā¦) then we will have two discs with excellent image quality and we can choose between the two color schemes regardless of which one of them is actually the correct one. ( I am of course only speaking as someone who wants the English tracks, different situations for different audiences )
With GBU even if the new colors are exactly the way they are supposed to it still has the shitty downmixed mono track (I still donāt know if this is on purpose or if they made an error since the original mono was certainly restored) and the scene Leone didnāt want. And unless you know and are satisfied with Italian only, there is no alternative (the old MGM BD is an abomination).

As for OUATITW, from what I have understood a lot of DVDs used to have incorrect colors, and some of them on purpose. Something about the equipment they were watched on and how they needed to POP from the screen or something. And I think DVD canāt even present all the colors as accurately as Blu-Ray.
That said, wouldnāt surprise me if the CVC is actually closest to what it should be (but how can we knowā¦). If I have understood correctly the technicolor prints (but is Leoneās copy technicolor or eastman or) shouldnāt have degraded much at all if they have been stored well. Butā¦ but. Yeah. And I know absolutely nothing about technicolor and eastmancolor and whatevercolor and prints dye transfers and stuff.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 4K BD is the best weāve got for the moment, alas, for as you point out, itās far from perfect irrespective of its colour. Iāve heard about The Alamo: saddening but all too believable (even if it makes no sense from MGMās POV).
Hey guys I am looking to get some info. on this FilmArt company out of Germany. I canāt seem to find too much info on them, canāt find a website, or where to order there releases. I did see The Cynic, the Rat and the Fist is available through Diabolik.com but I couldnāt find any of there other releases there. I am not even sure what all there titles are because of the lack of info. Their Facebook pages is pretty much all German which I donāt understand a lick of but as far as I can tell their releases seem to be English friendly and are some pretty awesome titles. Hate is my God being announced is some really awesome news and I want to make sure I donāt miss out on it.

Could be why Diabolik sells nothing? DTM.at works just fine but their shipping costs a lot.
They recently released Day of the Cobra on Blu-Ray ( http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00JL6KV58/ ), limited to 1000 copies. It has English audio and looks excellent. I donāt know if they have even released any other Blus yet.
Django Kill will be released by them (on Blu) by the end of June with new transfer and I expect it to look much better than the crap BU (and others) disc. Also limited to 1000.
Anyways I am certain Hate Is My God will be on Amazon.de.
How stupid does FOX think TGTBTU fans are? Just ignore the mono altogether rather than put on a downmix to insult fansā intelligence. Apparently the German releases of the first two are good, the Italian real of DYS works, but I donāt think there any English-friendly version of this one anywhere :(. How hard would seamless branching have been?! Guess Iām still have to hang onto that old SD DVD with inferior quality still :(.
Wait, the German Blu has the original mono?! I was under the impression that no version had the original mono track, which had, ahem, fallen by the wayside when they did the new ārestoration.ā Why exactly they couldnāt use seamless branching like they did on the Alien discs, Iāll never know. Iām sure thereāll be an inevitable fan-version with the PCM audio from the old LDs and he new Blu restoration, but Iām always afraid of owning bootlegs of anything out my fear of finding out whether of not orange really is the new black! Quick rundown for a noob, the German releases of the first two film on Blu have good picture quality and proper mono, the Italian release of the DYS has it, but I was under the impression that for TGTBTU, fans were basically SOL outside of the old SD release? I might have to pick up the anthology set for the extras though. Those Frayling commentaries are gold. Did he ever do one for TGTBTU? Yeah, countless butchered Hong Kong movies have pulled the crap with downmixes, itās almost more insulting than leaving it off. This is a mainstream enough release that itāll probably sell pretty well and go unnoticed by most buyers too :(. Sad that the defitinive movie of the genre doesnāt have a proper release anywhere.
On the old theatrical cut SD DVD and the laserdisc. When they created this new extended cut and insisted on it being the definitive version, they essentially ignored the mono track, evidently assuming were all too stupid to know the difference between it and the downmix. So as far as I know, no version has has the English language mono track. Iād love to be wrong :(.

The new scenes were already dubbed in 1995. Better dubbed than in 2004, but still differently enough sounding compared to the original voices. So actually, the āoriginal monoā is a mix from 1967, 1995 and 2004 (for the grotto scene).
