[Blu-ray] Latest and Upcoming Releases 📀

As it isn´t even listed or available in the Koch Media official shop, the Blue Ray seems to be delayed…

But like I said, both buch.de and alphamusic.de claims it is in stock and “ships immediately”. They had it for pre-order previously and changed into “in stock” during friday. Unfortunately I can’t order from there to test it because I think they both require me to print some form and sign it and then mail to them (otherwise can’t order FSK-18 discs).

Btw, Amazon.de has the disc listed now with a release date of 4th of December but not in stock.

To defocus about the Trinity disc. I understand what you mean by the scaling and the edge enhancements and such but it just seems weird if they have done that because they have released the full uncut version before on a DVD and it was made from a film source if I have understood correctly.
Then again I haven’t checked the DVD very thoroughly so I guess it could be there are some scenes from an inferior source. Or maybe they decided some scenes looked too bad on the film so they decided to replace them with worse…

Sundance,

Film stock tends to get old fast - not only that, but re-scanning film a ton of it on proper HD resolution is a costly affair. A quick upscaling from DVD to blu-ray is cheap I guess…all profits talking here, no eye for quality

Amazon.de shipped Silbersattel Blu-Ray to me yesterday, currently the site says they’re receiving more in 1-3 weeks.

Any idea if Silbersattel is region free?

seems like Region B according to this: Silbersattel Blu-ray - Film Details - BLURAY-DISC.DE

Like I always say to all my amigos, buy yourself a region-free blu-ray player. Got a Panasonic DMP-BD60 for 250$ on ebay.

Kinda bummed about having to shell out a good amount of cash for a region free BR player… anyone know if these are hackable like DVD players?

I was planning on buying a PS3 since you get the gaming system with the BR player, but would not be region free…

Got the Silbersattel Blu-Ray.

When you get to the menu and start the movie, you will be treated to possibly one of the worst transfers ever. Definitely the worst I have seen live. I would never buy something I knew was this bad (well except maybe if I knew there would never be anything better).

BUT

If you go to the extras section of the menu, you find an alternative version there which is actually the exact same movie but without all the filters. ;D So I guess all is good. Although I am somewhat
annoyed the crappy version is the main one and you have to check the extras to find the better (film like) one. And they spent 3GB more space for the crappy one which I think wouldn’t have to need more since there is no grain to reproduce properly.

Anyways, I am very happy with the ALTERNATIVE VERSION ;D I have some screenshots to show later (already took them, just have to put them up on my site). Unfortunately my equipment/programs can’t seem to decide if the disc is region coded or not, but I think it might be region free. I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THAT THOUGH.

So Sundance, would you say the BR is worth purchasing if you already have the DVD release?

Uh oh… that is a tough one. Well, it was definitely worth it for me. But the DVD by Koch Media does actually look very good (in motion, the screenshot comparisons isn’t that impressive) even in my 24" full hd monitor… there’s even some hint of grain left! The BR version is definitely better though if you like the grain. Some would probably love the filtered version, and I have a feeling there might even be one or two (or more) who would prefer the DVD over the BR versions (because the filtering sucks and the grain is quite heavy).

I don’t know if any of this helped though. ;D For many the DVD would probably be enough even though the difference is big.

the middle road would be to have a dvd player with HD-upscaling, gets you half-way to high-def :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the info… tough call. I do think the grain can add a bit of charm, so we’ll see…

Merging time prehaps?

Probably won’t shelling out $250 just for one blu ray movie. Maybe once they are the price of what a region free DVD player is now. Already have 2 PS3s.

I live in Europe so I want to be able to order cheaper movies from amazon.com, especially criterion releases, so thats why I wanted to buy a region-free player.

So far Ive only found the blu-ray release of A Fistfull of Dollars on DVDland. There are two different releases, a Special Edition and a normal one. http://www.dvdland.it/nicom1/nicom1;jsessionid=15E73DD360F0E0499513D92883D6D204.node3

Where else can I buy these movies? The shipping is so expensive.

These are the films that are on Blu-Ray now as I know. Are there any more?

Is the release region-free or not?
