[Blu-ray] Latest and Upcoming Releases šŸ“€

the only thing I don’t get is why release the shorter options at all… I mean who opts for seeing a basicaly censored version if he/she can have the full movie?

Yeah and that’s why I have a hard time believing that Grindhouse would release the film in any cut form, without the option to view uncut, as that basically goes against everything they’ve done before.

Also, there’s no way they are unfamiliar with other releases of this film like the Explosive blu ray which has this option. Its basically a no brainer to have the same option, when they already have rights to both English/Italian audio tracks and its a very small technical procedure.

If they don’t have this option, its definitely a slight notch down in Grindhouse’s rep

I think you’re misunderstanding this, authephex.

In many ways both releases are the same, just that Explosive doesnt offer the shorter version in addition to the longer one

But the Explosive release has the option to view the uncut version with English, and subtitles for few Italian scenes right?

The way that Grindhouse has worded their promo blurbs and that we are discussing here, the only way to view the fully uncut version on their release is in Italian language. Unless the ā€œnewly expanded Englishā€ version is actually fully uncut, but everyone seems to think it isn’t.

there is no full english audio for the uncut italian version, so they give u the option of watching an integral version with all english audio, but it is shorter than the full italian version. the Explosive media version is also a lot of sscenes left in italian with subtitles

Yeah, that’s what I mean. On the Explosive disc (along with previous fan versions  ) you can watch the whole uncut film with missing English scenes in Italian.

But the way the Grindhouse release is being discussed, this won’t be an option and you have to view the uncut version in Italian only - and there really isn’t any satisfactory excuse for this.

I’ll be buying the release either way, but still, if that’s the way they set it up, bad move on their part.

I see what you mean now.

What you guys have been discussing here on this page is right on the money and it is a we will have to wait and see kind of thing at this point still but autephex you are certainly right in what you said about this being very unclear in the press blurb. If one was to guess by the press blurb alone you would think this option is not going to be available on this release. I also agree that would be a silly mis-step by Grindhouse if this ends up being the case. But like I said I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I ordered this for the Italian version, as I’ve never seen it, and have everything else in the package in one form or another. It would be nice to get a box set of the Italian versions of all the major spaghetti’s. I caught TGTB&TU on TV in Italy once (the last 40 minutes or so) and it was pretty fascinating. Would be a great way to improve my Italian!

italiano italiano
the longer is defnitely superior, it has more depth

Yep.

I’m really curious to see what is still left out of the longer English version, if it is in fact still cut.

I know this isn’t a blu-ray but since it was already brought up here anyway  I just got the Code Red DVD of Vengeance and it is real sharp looking, nice step up from the Image edition.

This has probably already been discussed here, but wondering if anyone can help me with any possible differences with the Paramount and Warner Bros releases of Once Upon A Time In The West on blu ray?

Been reading all stellar reviews for the Paramount release, but looks like WB also did a release with the same cover art.

The Paramount disc costs twice as much currently on Amazon, and wasn’t sure if that’s just random Amazon pricing or if its because it has a better transfer.

Also the specs on Amazon are slightly different for each disc:
Run Time: 165 minutes - WB
Run Time: 175 minutes - Paramount

Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1 - WB
Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 - Paramount

8.99 WB blu ray

$20.76 Paramount blu ray

I should imagine they are the same, it’s just that Warner are now putting out Paramount back catalogue titles. The ones I’ve had just look like Paramount discs but have a little distributed by Warner sticker on the back.

I’m sure these are the same Blus. 1,85:1 is as wrong as the 175 min runtime. Also both Blus are listed with the same release date.

Since when is WB releasing Paramount titles?

yea weird…

The blu-ray.com forums say same disc, different distributer. Its just like when Blue Underground took over some of the titles from Anchor bay.

I have the Paramount title. Its got very great reviews.

However when I tried the disc I didn’t see as profound of an improvement over the SD as I would’ve thought, considering the great reviews the disc was getting and the comparetively low bit rate of the paramount dvd. Maybe my expectations were too high for a 1968 movie. I think blu ray shines when the film is in motion, but you just don’t see that much of a difference in still shots. Just my opinion, I’m sure most would disagree and say that its great.

naw man the BluRay is an enormous step up from the DVD… the level of detail and sharpness, the audio… maybe u need to upgrade your screen? I was amazed when I put it in the first time
