It’s a DVD though, not a Blu Ray or HD (now defunct) release

Well, now I don’t need to fork over $25+ for that image entertainment dvd! ;D

sorry, wrong thread

Wrong thread or not…thanks for the heads up! This is great news…one of my favorite Spaghetti’s. I never really could justify buying a $30 used copy of the Image DVD so this is great.

Put up an extra announcement, please share

it’s gonna be awesome

Whats this italian directors cut of the film? Whats the difference between that and the regular edition?

so this new american release is better than the german release?

I am trying to dig up the info where the differences was, it just a slight difference.

this one looks like it is gonna beat the German release in a few aspects, but I wonder if it is worth switching if you already own it…

Probably not.

The new release will feature 2 versions.
The complete Italian version (same as on the German Blu) with subs, and a longer English dubbed version, longer than usual, but not a complete one compared to the Italian one. They found somewhere some more dubbed scenes which weren’t released so far with the English versions. So it will be the known English version + 3 additional scenes.

what I am wondering is if the source of the material is the same for both releases? and if the remastering process for the Grindhouse Releasing version might in any way be superior to what Uli had at his disposal…

If they have done it right (and judging from their other releases they will have) it should be better than the Explosive Media disc.

The shorter restored English print from Sony is beautiful (I believe the French disc used it but it suffers from some mild filtering in my opinion) and there is absolutely no contest on which (short Sony print vs longer Explosive Media) looks better. (Unless you prefer the colors on the EM disc, because the difference is big).

The longer Italian version should also be better (but not as good as the short one) if they used the same source as the French did but without filtering. The Italian version on the French disc suffers even more from some filtering than the short version does which is why I would hesitate to recommend one over the other (talking about the French and Explosive Media discs. And the French disc does not have English subs or audio for the long version so…).
I don’t know if the French and EM discs had the same source material for the longer version but they both have some problems, just different ones. Like I said, the French appears to be filtered, maybe some DNR maybe something else… looks a bit too smooth and waxy and whatever (but probably won’t bother most, I’m just very… me), but otherwise better if my memory is correct. The EM disc on the other hand looks… old? I mean older scan. Harsh grain…? and looks a bit too sharpened (and it might look there is more detail when there aren’t) and edge enhancement is visible.

Has there been any mention on what the language options will be on the longer version on the Grindhouse Releasing release? If the GR discs has only subtitles for that version then I would keep the EM disc as well (well personally I’m keeping it anyways… :stuck_out_tongue: ) for the English audio+subs mix that is available there(?).

Is this disc going to be locked to Region1/A or is it Euro friendly?

from what I have heard it might be region free actually. but if you’re in EU, you can also get the Explosive Media disc, unless you’re after all the extras

For one you’ll get to actually hear Lee Van Cleef talking and not some German guy
I wish they would’ve just put out a single disc for a better price though. I don’t really need DVD and Blu Ray and CD etc…

the German release has Italian and English audio tracks as well

I thought the Koch Media DVD didnt have English…At least it didnt when I saw it at MediaMarkt  I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I guess there was another release, sorry about that!

both the Koch and the Explosive Media have English audio

The Koch release which is part of the rainbow series (DVD) does not have English audio

I didnt believe u, so I put in the disc… and you are right

Wow I didn’t even realize it got releases in the rainbow series by Kock…I thought it was just in their Segio Sollima Box Set and that was it. Actually maybe I remember seeing the single version…oh idk ???
