[Blu-ray] Latest and Upcoming Releases

(Gritz) #2247

I just happened to notice that Koch’s Blu-ray release of “A Sky Full of Stars…” is going to be presented in 1:77 instead of it’s OAR of 2:35. It was 2:35 on the DVD release from their box set a few years ago. I wonder why this is and now I am not sure whether to upgrade.

I think that’s a typo. The Koch Media release of the same move from 2013 was in 2.35:1 so this one is probably too.

(The Man With a Name) #2249

It does happen though. Anchor Bay released Lion of the Desert on DVD in 2.35:1 and the Blu-ray in 1.78:1. Such a shame!

I elect to think that Koch Media wouldn’t make such a gigantic blunder
The screenshots accompanying the release on the Koch Media website are also in aspect ratios closer to 2.35:1 than 1.77:1 which also fodders my optimism.

I would always take the spec sheets on the website with a grain of salt. On the other hand, as @The_Man_With_a_Name points out, it does happen from time to time. If the material they acquired for this HD release was scanned in a way that maybe damages on the sides or whatever were masked, or the material was a masked version to begin with… unfortunately I don’t have the disc yet so I can’t confirm

(Søren) #2252

Yes but if you are Koch Media that will not happen  I only remember them releasing one spaghetti western in the wrong aspect ratio and that was Shoot the Living… 14 years ago.

Seriously this is not going to happen. They would be crucified.

(Gritz) #2253

I remember Koch did release another DVD in 1:33 some years back other than Shoot the Living… man I can’t recall the title, it was from the rainbow collection I believe. But point taken, Koch is almost always on point with the OAR’s.

Für einen Sarg voller Dollars was released in 1.33:1 but I’m pretty sure that was an open matte transfer so that was fine.

(Gritz) #2255

Yep that is the one I was thinking of!!!

(Stanton) #2256

Yes, that and Baldi’s Hate They Neighbour were 4:3 open matte releases. The master was that way, and it seems they can’t mask it to the theatrically correct aspect ratio1,85:1 (or maybe 1,66:1) themselves.
Of course it is possible to get in that case via the zoom function of Player or TV an aspect ratio close to the intended one.
