Anthony Steffen

Just saw this music video on TV and thought for a moment that Oasis had got Anthony Steffen to stand in for Liam Gallagher for the first half of the clip! Hat over the eyes, slowly looking up, even the mouth looks the same. But he doesn’t do a dive, roll and shoot move so it obviously wasn’t our man Tony.

There is a resemblance though isn’t there? Or am I just going senile?

You’re not going senile

Not my kind of music, by the way, but those Gallaghers would be just fine in a spaghetti western

About as easy to work with as Kinski, but between the two of them not 1% of Kinski’s talent.

Yepp, but looking like Steffen would be enough for Liam. Especially if he would senselessly be shot in the first minutes of the movie.

I guess that wouldn’t help, since he’s more like those characters in horror movies: they keep coming back

Even better! Like that he can be shot several times!

I’ve always felt that he was an underrated actor. I’ve seen some stiff performances (mainly in westerns), but also some great outputs from him.

My favourite Steffen performance probably would be the one in Siciliano’s “The evil eye”, which has some very effective scenes involving Anthony. That film feels a bit like David Lynch before his time, and must be considered to be Mario Siciliano’s masterpiece (man, it’s hard to believe that it’s the same director that did so much schlock and went on to make porn).

Hi Akasava. Yeah he’s one of my favorites and I also believe he’s underrated as an actor. He’s definitely wooden his performances, but thats because he’s supposed to be. I would say more but I’m afraid people will tire of me singing praises of Steffen on this board LOL.

If you wanna see a good quality acting performance from steffen watch Two Pistols for a Coward aka Gunman sent from god.

He puts in a real subtle performance, showing a depth and range unseen in most of his other Spags. Plus we finally get to see him twirling pistols!

You SD fan!

Sartana/Django Baladeer: the plural og GIALLO is GIALLI.

This was quite a long time ago.

Sure, Silence.
Quite LONG AGO but still lONG OVERDUE.

Saw this link today re the Brazilian book on Steffen which I thought might be of interest here.

Apparently the authors are currently working on an expanded English translation which looks to be published in the U.S.
I certainly hope so.

I know a man who definitely is looking forward to this book (along with millions of fans all over the world) …

Frankly, I’m not. I never cared much for the Steffen’s movies, none of them is a real favourite, therefore they never made me curious who the man behind the actor was. Still, a biography can be of interest for other reasons. I never was a special fan of John Wayne (I didn’t hate him either though), but Gary Willis’ John Wayne’s America, the politics of celebrity, I one of the best books on cinema and on politics I have ever read. Absolutely brilliant.

lol

If you see an italian version of that book soon you’ll know for sure who will have translated it.

Yes, I saw the fandub of this movie a few months ago, good performance from Steffen in this one

I find it really sad that Steffen’s best westerns don’t have english friendly dvd releases. Cry for Revenge, Two Pistols and a Coward, Stranger at Paso Bravo, Garringo are among his best work but nobody sees these films unless its a fandub or vhs rip. And no room to die seems like its out of print and no longer available either. Too many people are missing out on the best of Steffen! None of these films are even available on bootleg PD releases.

No room to die is not Steffen’s film, it’s Berger’s
