Ok, we’ve talked endlessly in the past about compiling an extended list of member’s favourites or alternative top 20 and never decided on a format that everyone likes so rather than wait any longer I figured I would just go ahead and start a new list based on an idea I put forward a little while ago.
Fundamentally the idea is this. I’d like everyone to submit a new Top 20 on this thread with the one rule that no film on your list can be one that appears on our current Official Top 20. So as to avoid confusion the current list is as follows:
The Good, the Bad & the Ugly | Sergio Leone (1966)
For a Few Dollars More | Sergio Leone (1965)
Once Upon a Time in the West | Sergio Leone (1968)
The Great Silence | Sergio Corbucci (1968)
A Fistful of Dollars | Sergio Leone (1964)
Django | Sergio Corbucci (1966)
The Big Gundown | Sergio Sollima (1966)
Death Rides a Horse/Man to Man | Giulio Petroni (1967)
The Mercenary/A Professional Gun | Sergio Corbucci (1968)
Companeros | Sergio Corbucci (1970)
Face to Face | Sergio Sollima (1967)
A Fistful of Dynamite/Duck, You Sucker! | Sergio Leone (1971)
A Bullet for the General | Damiano Damiani (1966)
My Name is Nobody | S. Leone;T.Valerii (1973)
Day of Anger | Tonino Valerii (1967)
Cemetery without Crosses | Robert Hossein (1968)
Keoma | Enzo G. Castellari (1976)
Django, Kill… If You Live, Shoot! | Giulio Questi (1967)
Return of Ringo | Duccio Tessari (1965)
Run, Man, Run | Sergio Sollima (1968)
What I’m keen to find out is, once all the obvious titles are taken out of the equation, which others rise to the top? As I believe it gets harder to place films in any true order when you start to run into your top 30 or 40 films I will score films on the simple system of 1 point every time it appears on a list so you don’t need to concern yourself too much on which is number 1 and which is number 20 on your new list. Just list 20 films which are your favourites and which do not feature in the official Top 20 list above. Simple? I hope so.
And if you haven’t seen enough films to choose another 20 then give us 10 or 5. Just as long as they are films you genuinely recommend. Don’t list films just because they are all you’ve seen. If they stink, leave them off.
Once I’ve got a decent number of submissions I’ll compile the Alternative Top 20 and create a new page for it on the database.

I think three of your choice (XXX) are on the “forbidden list” (Phil’s introduction).
Just for further clarification, should we not include films in our “official” top 20, as well as the overall official top 20? Or is that not much of a concern in this one?
