As Spaghetti Westerns take place in the Wild West, we see lots of Sheriffs, Deputies and other lawmen typical to the era. The question is, which SW Sheriff is your favorite?
Mine has to be Gideon Burnett (Frank Wolff) from The Great Silence. Burnett truly believes in justice and a bunch of bad guys aren’t enough to scare him away.
Other (favorite) Sheriffs of mine are for example Fred Leinster (Brett Halsey) from KIdnapping, Burt Cooley (Giacomo Rossi Stuart) from Massacre at Grand Canyon, Pat Garrett (Rod Cameron) from Bullets Don’t Argue and Sheriff Klaus (José Bódalo) from Garringo.
If we’re talking about the corrupt Sheriffs, my favorites are probably Lance Corbett (Giacomo Rossi Stuart) from Gunfight at Red Sands and Sheriff Jefferson (Benito Stefanelli) from The Price of Power. Corbett because he tries so hard to keep up the “I’m the good guy” act, when he actually comes off kinda suspicious, and in reality he’s a PoS. I also find it ironic that Corbett is racist towards Mexicans, but his own girlfriend happens to be Mexican
Sheriff Jefferson is just pure evil and therefore a very memorable Sheriff character, at least in my opinion.
My fav sheriff is Luis Induni , specifically for his sense of civic duty … and I think he’s the most prolific of all actors to play that role in this genre ?
John Bartha aka Janos Bartha plays an ineffectual sheriff in dozens and dozens of Italian westerns. Must be an in-joke. Also in Sabata, Return of Sabata, I Am Sartana Your Angel of Death, Last of the Badmen, Ringo and his Golden Pistol, Sartana Trade Your Pistol for a Coffin, This Man Can’t Die, His Name is King among others.
