What Film Are You Watching Tonight?

Just finished Baba Yaga(73’) a really strange horror film with Carroll Baker and George Eastman.

Sounds strange.

It was!
Perhaps I have not viewed enough arthouse films?

Maybe so :D.

Watched “Almost Human” - very good, nasty crime movie with nice performances of Tomas Milian and Henry Silva.

Another peplum. Spartacus And The Ten Gladiators. Pretty good fun again. (Having a break from sitting thru three westerns in a row)

Not bad going :).

Just rewatched SECRETS & LIES, a masterpiece from Britain’s finest director (along with Ken Loach) Mike Leigh

One of my favourite movies
If you’re looking for intelligently written, tremendously well acted&directed drama, this is a film for you

But don’t expect too much action scenes …

BRITAINS FINEST DIRECTOR I think is clearly from the Golden 1960s/1970s someone like: ROBERT DAY or DAVID GREENE

Both of these great directors made numerous oustanding Adventure,/Horror/ Thrillers …
These Mike Leigh and Ken Loach are extremely recent makers of tedious (for me) dramas, arty films and have not made any Cult or Classic Or Exploitation or Good Films.
When you want the BEST you must never look at any 1980s/1990s/2000s you MUST GO

1950s 1960s 1970s

??? But Scherpy for God’s sake you promised to cut out all these “dramas” zzzzzz :’(
and watch instead some ART HOUSE stalk and slash, Gore filled HORROR FILMS

Almost Human 78 Spartacus And Ten Gladiarors 64 Baba Yaga 73 ALL Excellent

I saw again on SKY Movies :

FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX 1965 Directed by : Robert Aldrich

JAMES STEWART HARDY KRUGER Richard Attenborough Dan Duryea Peter Finch

Sprawling, overlong, dramatic crashed plane in desert survival Aldrich Film which is short
on real thrills, has one standard plot but benefits from top class acting by James Stewart
and German “inventor” of model planes Hardy Kruger. Unusual film with no female actress

My Vote For The Flight Of The Phoenix 1965 is 10.5 out of 20

Oh yes, a very bloody mess. Watched it recently too. Milian plays a mean son of a bitch in this one.

Danger: Diabolik. Nice semi-funny crime action movies starring John Philips Law. Well played and entertaining throughout. Very catchy score by Morricone.

A History of Violence.
Very good movie about the way violence affects people’s lives. I thought that Cronenberg would tone down the violent scenes for a mainstream movie but fortunately that was not the case here.

Very good film. Great opening shot that’s all one un-edited take. Sorta reminded me of spaghetti westerns with the ending an’ all. Some influence maybe?

FIRE DOWN BELOW 1997 Steven Seagal Marg Helgenberger Kris Kristofferson

Steven Seagal is excellent as always in this very violent, tough, entertaining thriller with
an environmental message. Seagal plays Jack Taggart a government agent determined to
stop illegal toxic dumping carried out by slick/oily business man Kristofferson.
Along the way Seagal romances Marg Helgenberger who hides a dark brotherly secret
and there are plenty of superb scenes where Seagal speaks softly then explodes violence
Twisted “critics” who undervalue Seagal should get a good kicking and karate chopping

My Vote for FIRE DOWN BELOW 1997 is 11.5 out of 20

Saw CRANK (2006), probably the craziest, deleriously pumped up movie I’ve seen in years

Jason Statham is a hitman who’s latest assignement went wrong (we experience only very late in the movie what has happened exactly, it’s essential to the weird, ultr-violent finale) so he’s injected with a concoction that will kill him when his heartbeat rate drops. So all he’s got to do is get pumped up, get pumped up and get pumped up again.
And anything goes:
A sniff of cocaine
Breezers by the dozen
Knocking a nigga out in a bar full of niggas (no it’s not politically correct)
Chopping opponents’ hands off and shooting them with the chopped-off hand (you must see this to believe it)
Destroy a shopping centre with your car, ending up on a moving staircase (yes, with the car!)
Sex in puplic with your fashionable girlfriend (hilarious!)
Putting your hand in a waffle iron
etc.

Of course it doesn’t make any sense at all, but not only Statham but the entire movie is so pumped up that when it’s over, as a viewer you feel like taking twelve sniffs of cocaine in a row, roasting a nigga in a waffle iron and having sex with a chopped-off girlfriend on a moving staircase
Of course I did none of all this
I’m a nice guy
(Don’t worry SD)

Don’t miss this one

Pumped up this one for sure with frantic energy.

CRANK 2006 is a real VOMITER FILM as it regurgitates an unpalatable diet of

Se-x/ Nigga Filth Talk / Revolting Cocaine Drugs and a cardboard Stiffo Statham :’(
The film has no value/talent/merit and sets out just to shock with sex/race/drugs dirt.

I am 100% opposed to Film censorship but I shiver with indignation thinking about how
a sick criminal youth hoodie/thug is going to get ideas/inspiration from this turdy film mess

MY Vote for CRANK 2006 is 1.5 out of 20 . ??? :o

A friend brought round ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ - a small-time drug-gangstery film set in Derbyshire, England.
Absolutely brilliant!! Violent and revenge-based (sound familiar?). Altho’ you can find comparisons with other films, the cover mentions Taxi Driver and First Blood) it’s also got bit’s of Get Carter and … (we would see it …) it owes a debt to Spaghetti-based revenge movies - whether it knows it or not. Fabulously underplayed and gritty, and not without a dark humour. It’s sparse, tense, nihalistic and it’s all beautifully filmed and skillfully framed. And also like a good sw, it also has a fabulous soundtrack that you’d think is too beautiful for the action if you’d heard it out of context.
I’d read nothing, and knew nothing about this, other than my mate banging on about how much I’d love it … and he weren’t wrong!!
Recommended … and then some more ;).

The Long Good Friday.

Classic U.K gangster film with Bob Hoskins and a very nice looking Helen Mirren :-*.

Wel, if ever a film was on the edge …

I alluded to the effect it might have on viewers in my post, still most studies point out that these effects are of a temporary nature. I can affirm this: I felt pumped up afterwards for a few minutes, but had a good night’s sleep and haven’t been thinking of knocking out girlfriends and having sex with niggas in public since. I must admit that the effect can be more lasting, but mainly if a) a person is exposed repeatedly over a longer period to films with this kind of content, and b) this person already had shown a tendency to adopt the behaviour or ideas shown. In plain words: a racist, fascist, violent movie in which rude language and drug abuse are glorified, will have a considerable effect on a racist drug-addict, but relatively little, or no effect at all on most people on this forum, who wouldn’t hurt a fly (they only catch them with their six-shooter and release them afterwards).

I don’t want to underestimate any social problem related to drugs, alcohol, violence or racism
And I’m willing to take any possible problem seriously (also a problem that is possible caused or aggravated by a movie), but taking a problem seriously means: giving serious consideration to all aspects of it, not only to a few obvious or popular ones. The contents of a movie can be objectionable and it’s not totally unthinkable that a movie (or parts of it) are better banned, but let’s be sensible about these things. People can become alcoholics or drug addicts, and white men sometimes knock out afro-americans (although in the ring it’s usually the other way round), but hardly ever because they’ve seen such behaviour in cinema and liked it.
Adolf Hitler did’nt try to wipe out the jews because he had seen an action movie.
Actually, he was one of the fiercest censors in history and would’ve hated a film like CRANK
That was defenitely Entartete Kunst for him
