What Film Are You Watching Tonight?

True. I like Full Metal Jacket a lot, but I rather found it structurally confounded - the weird narrative somehow messes the things up for me.

Agreed, the training sessions are great, but otherwise Full Metal Jacket isn’t anything special. Barry Lyndon on the other hand, is a wonderful film.

I always really enjoyed the first half of Full Metal Jacket, and then the second not so much. But then, I’m not big on war/battle movies.

Been pulling a lot of all nighters lately, working on some new music till into the morning/afternoon… so if I make it that far again today, I think I’ll do one of my favorite early-morning-haven’t-slept-delerium-viewings: [i]Django Kill[i]

Actually like the second half, but overall, while the film remains eminently re-watchable, it doesn’t have the cathartic impact that Barry Lyndon has: it’s cumulative impact is very powerful.

Eyes Wide Shut would probably be my fav Kubrick

Eyes Wide Shut is genuinely splendorous IMHO. Paths of Glory is my favourite Kubrick though.

Think I’ll check this one out tonight.

Best Kubrick movies for me, hard to pick between Paths of Glory and The Killing. Both great movies if you haven’t seen them highly recommended!
Tonight going to watch Ninja Shadow of a Tear. Saw the trailer yesterday, looks awesome

I think I’m going to watch MASK with Eric Stoltz and Cher. Good film.

The Killing is an unusual pick. I re-watched it recently. Fine heist movie, but not a great one.

The best is definitely 2001, one of the best ever, the total fascination.

I disagree. The Killing is a great heist film, but I would not state it’s a great Kubrick flick. I’ve recently revisited 2001 and although I do find it quite fascinating, it’s not one of the very supremest Kubrick motion pictures for me. Perchance my third or fourth favourite Kubrick effort.

I’m watching Face Off (1997) right now and I must say it’s a fantastic modern actioner, a truly gratifying, brainwashing, preposterous popcorn bullshit spectacle. I guess I’ll watch another pic by John Woo afterwards.

Where’s the difference between ā€œgreatā€?

Sorry for the perplexity. :stuck_out_tongue:

I mean that there are more superior Kubrick’s films vis-a-vis The Killing which is still an excellent flick replete with many a slick conceit and neat acting. Once one is taking about Kubrick’s films, it is somewhat tacit that one is dealing with A-Grade cinema, hence a minor Kubrick film might still be a fantastic piece of entertainment, as it is an opus of the master.

I should probably specify my favorite. Not neccesarily best  I think I recall also Stanton youre not a fan of narration in movies? I think it can add something in certain films.

So does Stanton, he just approves of more unorthodox ways narration as far as its use is warranted, effective and appeals to him.

There is no point in being sardonic, nobody attacks your opinions.

I can see why some people would find Barry Lyndon entertaining but I simply fell asleep. Praise it all you want, it’s not exactly Kubrick’s most celebrated film.

Agreed 100% …one could argue that 2001 puts as many people to sleep as Barry Lyndon but I’m highly biased being a huge fan of sci-fi so I love it.

No offense intended, Just busting Stans balls
