What Film Are You Watching Tonight?

Thank you, Mr. Moto starring Peter Lorre

I just like those old b/w adventure movies  !

Will watch Cemetery Without Crosses tonight for the first time! ;D

Hope you enjoy it. Despite it not sitting well with me, it is a very well made film.

One more post Silver…then you are on 1000…congratulations on being the very first 1000 female poster :).

Well, may aswell make it a thousand by replying! ;D As for the first female 1000 poster, looks like unfortunately it may stay that way for some time! There’s got to be more women out there into SW’s surely! :frowning:

:D…yep must be more some where…

MONGOL (2007, Sergei Bodrov)

A biopic of Mongol conquerer Ghenghis Kahn, apparently the first part of a planned trilogy

Left me with mixed feelings
Beautifully shot, some tremendous action sequences, and all in all well-told, but strangely uninvolving
Many have compared it to BRAVEHEART, but that film moved, this one leaves you rather cold

Still it’s a good thing that a serious movie (or trilogy) is made about a man who is to most people the evil incarnate
History is written by victors, they say, but this is not true in the case of the Mongols; their history was mainly written by Chinese, Russians and Arabs, who had all reason to describe him as a cruel animal. Sure he was a conquerer, but Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Muhammad were conquerers too, and very cruel as well. But their history was written by admirers …

maybe this film can change all this
I heard a few more ā€˜objective’ books about the man have been published lately
(Going to read one for sure)

3 out of 5
(Not really enthralled, but looking forward to part 2)

The latest I’ve seen:

  • Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
Pretty good giallo with all the ingredients you may expect from such a film.
  • Dinner with the vampire
A Scooby Doo type horror movie from L. Bava. Very corny, dumb and childish but George Hilton largely makes up for that portraying the vampire.
  • Ilsa the wicked warden
Nice and sleazy stuff from Jess Franco. Though not a real Ilsa entry, in my opinion much better than She wolf of the SS.
  • Juno
A colleague of my girlfriend lent it to my girlfriend (not on request by the way). So she felt obliged to watch it and I was unfortunate enough to be present too. Pretty bad flick, very ā€˜teeny’ in it’s approach with horrible MTV slang type dialogues throughout. Needless to say I didn’t care about the plot either. The acting was ok though. My girlfriend didn’t care for the film either.
  • The frighteners
This was on tv last night and I saw a big chunk. Had seen it before, enjoyable flick. Very nice to see R. Lee Ermey reprise hi drill sergeant role from Full Metal Jacket, this time as a ghost.

The Silent Stranger

heaven’s gate on MGM channel tonight

Oooh. Be careful. That one spawned the razzies. :o

But it’s not a bad film
It’s not great, and it’s terribly overlong, but the problem is that the cut version is nearly incomprehensible, while the full version - if overlong - makes at least sense
I’d say, watch it, 666

Just got back from the cinema after seeinga QUANTUM OF SOLACE

And how was it?

The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) has been viewed.

Eddie Coyle (Robert Mitchum) is a small time criminal who is supplying guns to a group of friends who happen to be robbing banks. Coyle at the same time is also trading information with the Police to try and lighten an upcoming prison sentance.
Film is full of supporting actors which are easily recognisable from 70’s U.S films including; Peter Boyle (sly as a fox in this one), Richard Jordan and Alex Rocco. Excellent Jazz style funk score from Dave Grusin, and very similar to scores by Lalo Schifrin, Roy Budd and Quincy Jones of the the same period. The bank robbery scenes in this are very well staged, and very tense. Film is low key and griity at the same time.

Ranks in one the best Robert Mitchum films in my view, and is also one of the best films of its kind from the 70’s.

Thank’s to Sherp for the recommendation of EL REY DE LA MONTAƱA (King of the Hill, Spain, 2007) .
Defenitly a punching movie.

" the messengers" tonight
Just got back from the cinema after seeinga QUANTUM OF SOLACE
saw it on tuesday. it’s almost not like a james bond film. it’s the darkest and most serious of the series, but it’s pretty good. a slimmer, meaner bond.helps if you have seen " casino royale" though. some good action scenes.

Just finished watching L’America a Roma. An excellent documentary on ex SW stuntmen actors which I found both interesting and moving. I’d recommend it any fan of the genre.

Hated: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies
Documentary about the most extreme punk rocker and performance artist ever. This guy was just so crazy. Good stuff!
