What Film Are You Watching Tonight?

as it’s halloween i shall be watching halloween but the recent rob zombie version.

I watched the begining of the Zombie version but I thoug it was too much. Horror films start out wth something violent then, it goes to something joyfull. Not so this time. It is DARK and depressing. Not how to do a horror film IMO.

Good question, to be fair I cannot really say why. I had several time his DVD’s (Only three Movies so far I think) in my hands but didn’t rented them. I thought always in his movies there must be too much gore and sadistic violence. I’m also not a fan of the Hostel Movie but I liked somehow the remake of The Hills have Eyes and the SAW Movies. I like it more when there are athomospheric (of course dark and gritty) scenes as just ultra-violent torture. Could Rob Zombie do a SW? Maybe but I have to see one of his movies first.
Don’t want a happy ending either at a Horror Movie. IMO John Carpenter was one of the best who could do athmospheric Horror Movie. Halloween is a perfect Horror Movie and I never understood why should someone make a remake of a perfect movie. I think I’ll give Rob Zombies Version a try cause I’m a Michael Myers Fan. ;D

" death sentence" tonight. the kevin bacon starrer not the SW of the same name.

I just can’t help myself, but i just have to comment on “Halloween” remake again - it’s a stinking piece of shit and it shows perfectly why they should stop remaking all these great classic movies

I didn’t like the Halloween remake either… but I loved The Devil’s Rejects

Yes, that’s a funny one, and real nasty

Tarkovsky’s Solaris
Fritz Lang’s Scarlet Street

EL REY DE LA MONTAñA (King of the Hill, Spain, 2007)

A man an a woman meet at a gas station, make a quickie, and say goodbye to each other, seemingly forever
They meet again shortly after, but then they’re are chased by one or more lunatics who try to kill them with a long distance rifle
This thriller was succesfully shown on several film festivals. It has some slow stretches in the first half, when you ask yourself what it’s all about, and if there will be an unexpected twist. There will be one. It’s dead simple, but will hit you like a Mike Tyson punch and turn the rather erratic thriller in a genuinely frightening and disturbing experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Highly recommended to those interested in suspense movies (and I know there are some on the forum)

Cobra…Peter Martell as a disgraced treasury agent out to thwart plans to flood the US with opium. Not bad…a little choppy but fun overall. And i was really digging the groovy theme tune!

Hardcore has been viewed.

A daughter goes missing and is found to be working in the adult porn industry.

The performance by George C Scott lifts this film out of the run of the mill for me, and interesting to see a very religious person drawn into the seedy world of porn.

I finally didi it. I watched Rob Zombie’s Halloween. It wasn’t that bad but miles away from John Carpenter’s Masterpiece. The introduction of Michael Myers is too long and it with this overlong introduction (ok it was better for him cause he could show more gore) Rob Zombie destroyed something of the dark atmosperic feeling which the original had. Some lines and scenes were totally ripped off from the original but IMO sometimes they didn’t fit well (the thing with the Bogey Man) to the movie. Not that bad but not that good as it should be.

Uomini Forti - a peplum documentary. (thanks Romaine!). I do have a fondness for this genre so it was a very interesting watch, with some funny stories and interviews with Mimmo Palmara and Rosalba Neri amongst others. There was a really funny clip, of a scene being filmed, depicting a fight between a group of young women vs older women that erupted into a very real free for all…with one granny being hurled into a wall and another having their wig ripped off! Just a shame that the programme wasn’t longer…a feature length would have been nice, with perhaps some interviews with other stars (at least the ones who are still with us!)

I’ve recently considered watching some old italian sword and sandals but nothing beats the spaghettis. I actually only came to this genre on a whim. I said, “Wouldn’t that be interesting to research.” My first non leone was Bullet for the general. ASo maybe I won’t switch to SWAS films.

He is a great guy. Gave me about 8 movies! Going to receive the last of those soon.

Re-watched Rodriquez’s Sin City last night, I didn’t like it as much as first time but it’s still a good one.

A friend of mine conducted a projection of an old Soviet movie called “Chelovek s kino-apparatom” with addition of The Cinematic Orchestra sountrack. Interesting expierience. the movie was very good and the music was simply outstanding.
