What are your opinons on dvd extras?
To be honest I seldom/never watch them. I don’t mind having them though, and who knows maybe someday when I don’t have something better to do I will give them a go.
But extras never influence which version of a film I’m going to purchase.
Only issues regarding the film itself(English options, uncut, wide screen etc…) is important to me when I decide which version to get.
Just about sums me up.

I have a large collection of books on films, not only westerns, so most of the things said on extras and commentary tracks are already known to me. Furthermore there are few people who really have something to say about a movie, most people come up with predictable ideas on a film makers style etc. or with pure nonsense. Actors and directors usually are very careless in relation to facts; Castellari for instance is a nice guy, but when he says he made Any Gun Can play in 1964 I loose all attention. Kinski and Milian are great actors, but they’re a pain in the ass. Nero is an okay fellow, I was touched (like Nero himself) when he spoke about his friend the late Corbucci (I think the interview is on the German release of Compañeros), but he one of those who is rather careless in relation to facts.

I have written quite a view film and book reviews in my life, and I have always avoided contacts with writers, actors and directors as much as possible: personal contact might influence your power of judgment.

Yeah I’m with you on that Scherp. From all the interviews I have seen, I’ve always noticed that SW actors and directors have a tendancy to “talk big”, as well as stretch/distort the truth a little.

I thought about the Castellari thing on the Johnny Hamlet extras. He didn’t really know but I was happy that he didn’t really shy away from saying Klimovsky wasn’t a good a director.

But In the Train for Durango extras, Mario Caiano seemed to know his dates pretty well. But mark Damon… ::slight_smile:

I’m not usually watching the interviews for the facts so much as just seeing what the actors and directors are like outside of the film… its interesting to see them as “real people”

I always enjoy seeing how they have aged.

Right, Ennioo, at a certain age it’s nice to see that you’re not the only one who has reached a certain age …

Misery loves company, eh!

So your avatar is an actual picture of you! ;D

Oh yeah, I agree that most ‘extras’ are a waste.

Sure is.
