The old reggae scene seemed to love spaghetti westerns. I remember few songs with a titles like Return of Django or something like that. In the famous reggae film The Harder They Come there’s also a scene where they’re in cinema watching Django.
As a reggae fan, I’m familiar with many of the SW-inspired songs. The Upsetters (featuring the late Lee “Scratch” Perry) had the songs: Return of Django, Clint Eastwood, Taste for Killing, Dollar in the Teeth, For a Few Dollars More, Kill Them All (and Come Back Alone). King Stitt had a song called Lee Van Cleef (Ugly One). The Crystallites had a song called Stranger in Town and The Undertaker. Rico Rodriguez had a song called Return of the Bullet. The Swans had a song called Killer Passing Through. Herman Chin Loy had a song called Sabata. Count Machuki had a song called Franco Nero. There’s a cool YouTube channel called Ebony Parpella. The content creator took many of these reggae songs and turned them into music videos with scenes from the actual SW movies.
Correction. The channel is Ebony Parpalla.
So I’ve spent the last three days in my grandfathers basement (the only place where I can concentrate) writing a nine-page memorandum on the topic of democracy vs industrialization during the past 150 years, while listening to this classic over and over again. Now I have no idea how to get it out of my head…
In my experience the only way to get rid of an ear worm is to replace it with another.
nice to see you’re also calling it that, or is that a German import?
Not sure where it originated but it’s a pretty common term here these days
‘UNFORGIVEN’ 1992
The main theme…beautiful, emotional, enchanting, and forever magical …
The love and sincerity behind this tragic, yet hopeful theme, never fails to touch me.
In fact, I would go as far as saying that this enchanting gem is on a par with the immortal theme from ‘The Deer Hunter’. Both film themes encapsulate the love and tragedy of the action/drama on screen.
Hence, two versions of ‘Claudia’s theme’ from the film that recognised Clint for the legend that he is.
Following this up with ‘Paint Your Wagon’…
Showing my age now…I remember Lee being in the UK charts…damn, that brings back memories…good ones. ![]()
Plus an extra from ‘Rawhide’…
Oh, I love the track to Paint Your Wagon! ![]()
I have to play this, before going to bed…
I love this film…the introduction of Roger Moore as Bond, the groovy soundtrack by George Martin, and Voodoo vs a suave British agent…It all works for me…
Roger in a black polo-neck…In the Eighties it was cool, and I followed the trend. (Again, showing my age).
It was the time of the ‘Milk Tray’ man adverts…he was usually shown diving into the sea, and then delivering a box of chocolates.
We’d probably need to speak to Phil.H about this period of time…?
Not only the best Bond film (IMHO), but also the best Bond theme, especially when sung by Paul and Linda at their best…
To my mind, Paul’s later versions, without Linda, don’t feel the same…
This early version brings back so many memories… ![]()
DAMN!!! this video is so cool!!
Just found this version of ‘LALD’ on Youtube…I’ve gotta admit, it’s rather good. Great to see an orchestra having fun… ![]()
Also, two versions of another theme that always inspires me…hope it does you too. ![]()
Vangelis forever….
Or am I just reminiscing, and showing my age…?
Does anyone else remember the Geoff Love compilation LPs…?
Essential listening for us amigos born in the 1800’s… ![]()
Vinyl records…the streaming service of their day… ![]()
They were all we had to remind us of the film that we had just sat in awe of.
No VHS, Betamax tapes…unless you were prepared to take a mortgage out on your house to buy or rent a caravan-sized recorder.
All that existed were memories of what we had witnessed on a square screen.
As a result, the film theme compilations proved invaluable…

Produced in the 70’s, these LP’s were essential buys for anyone remotely interested in hearing a film theme. Especially if they had only just watched it on the square 4:3 TV in pan and scan the day before.!
It’s a time before us kids at the time became wise to the ‘original version’. We were content to hear anything remotely resembling the musical experience that we had just heard and seen on screen.
It’s interesting to note that on the Geoff Love Western Themes, he does a version of 'A Man, A Horse, a Gun’ (The Stranger Returns). So, even then the SW’s were getting a mention…
Anyway, I hope older companeros take a trip down memory lane…
and that younger amigos appreciate how few cartridges we ‘old-timers’ had to exist with, once the SW bug bit…

Anyway…off now to re-live my earlier years with these wonderful covers-versions from Geoff…
That orchestral version of the ‘Goldfinger’ title theme is one of my all-time favourite Bond tracks!
It comes in just behind my overall favourite, the main theme from my favourite Bond flick, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
I think I have all these. Including the less classic Concerto Movie Themes and the two TV Themes. They were cheap and accessible back then but also actually very good. Geoff Love was a talented guy. I still listen to all of them regularly.
I had a couple of Geoff Love compilations when I was a kiddie, both on cassette tape. I had Star Wars and Other Space Themes, and Themes For Super Heroes. Played them to death. ![]()
I take it back then. I don’t have either of those…yet ![]()
Im nee here’s my song. Forever young
Welcome aboard!
