I remember seeing a spagetti western 50+ years ago where the beginning of the movie the star is in jail. It goes something like this, the sheriff says he will release the gunfighter to go clean up a town.

That’d be my guess anyway. Hosta may have been thrown off because it wasn’t Clint in the role and it we don’t see his face if I recall correctly.
Genuinely can’t think of anything else but it is less than fifty years old if it was in 1977.
