  19. No Room to Die ( Sergio Garrone, 1969)

  20. Kill Them All and Come Back Alone (Enzo G Castellari, 1968)

This might seem like a ‘‘vanilla’’ list to some, but these are honestly my top 20 favourite SWs at the moment, with GBU being the best IMO, and KtAaCBA being the lowest, although still very good since it made it into my top 20.

While these probably won’t count, here’s some runner ups for fun:

-Companeros
-Duck, You Sucker
-Navajo Joe
-Arizona Colt
-Texas Adios
-Sabata
-God Forgives, I Don’t
-Minnesota Clay
-My Name is Nobody
-Long Live Your Death

Too bad I couldn’t fit them all…

Maybe some more of the longtime members, who constantly rewatch Spags, could revise their lists. If there is something to revise.

And maybe some others prepare their debut lists. Maybe some more knowledgeable fans, who only read the forum without being registered.

The arrival of new lists is constantly slowing down, and in that tempo we will need some years to reach the 200 mark, which I would like to reach. Still 18 missing …

Um…If you’re talking about me, Stanton, I actually posted my list above yours.

I will think about writing a favourites list over a top 20 list. That will be controversial.

I mean, Stanton has said over the years in this topic that your top 20 list is SUPPOSED to be your favourites.

I have only been on just under months. So I wasn’t sure what the list was representing. Thanks. :cowboy_hat_face:

Hi Forum members-

I just registered today and there are some great SW nuggets in these lists (i.e. Ramon the Mexican). Thank you for the great posts. Will provide my top 20 shortly.

I know, of course.

It was just a general request, to keep the database’s Top 20 list dynamic by getting new ones, which probably reflect the wider distribution of some more unknown gems.

Alright, then, Stanton. I thought that since you mentioned ‘‘members who read the forums without being registered’’ that your remark was directed towards me, as that is true for me.

Yes, we want the personal favourites, the Spags that one watches the most, because they are the most fun to watch.
We want a representation of your taste, not what you think which ones should be the “objective” best. Which is totally irrelevant anyway, as there is no objectivity.
And all these subjective views of the genre then form a consensous about the genre, and that is what these kind of lists can do.

This is also why most of the usual critic about these kind of lists is pretty odd.
They are not made to show real surprises, they do not represent a truth, they need not to reflect your own taste, there are no films which have to be necessarily in such a list, and there are also no films that never should appear in such a list.
In other words, lists should be fun and should be taken seriously without any seriousness …

… oh, and feel free to disagree …

Well, yes, you was the inspiration for that request.

I’m also still waiting for Ennio (not Morricone), one of our first forum members, to create his list. He probably needs some more decades to make the list to end all lists …

Also e.g. our Admin’s list puts some rust on it, so old it is.

My personal SW top:

  1. Once Upon a Time in the West (Leone)
  2. For a Few Dollars More (Leone)
  3. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (Leone)
  4. The Big Gundown (Sollima)
  5. The Mercenary (Corbucci)
  6. A Bullet for the General (Damiani)
  7. Face to Face (Sollima)
  8. Death Rides a Horse (Petroni)
  9. Duck you, sucker (Leone)
  10. Day of Anger (Valerii)
  11. Fistfull of Dollars (Leone)
  12. 10,000 Dollars for a Massacre (Guerrieri)

  17. The Return of Ringo (Tessari)
  18. The ugly ones (Martín)
  19. Night of the serpent (Petroni)
  20. Cut-throats nine (Marchent)

And next twenty films could be (not in an specific order):

Good lists CarlosCS.

If you had to drop 3 from your second list which would they be?

The reason I ask is, With three less on that list I can submit an Alternative Top 20 for you too at the same time to add towards this: Alternative Top 20 - The Spaghetti Western Database

In short, you have 6 films in your Top 20 which would also qualify for our Alternative Top 20 and 3 in your “next best” list which wouldn’t so if you can cut 3 from the second list “Voila” you have an official Alternative Top 20 list ready to go.

Hope that’s clear although I realise I might just have made it even more confusing.

Hahaha, I’m a little bit confused now haha! I don’t undersantand very well the purpose of doing that, but if I have to drop 3 films of the second list as you said, I think it would be:

Death Sentence: I remember it had very good scenes, well directed… but the story and the screenplay was a little weak.

Light the fuse…Sartana is coming: it’s a pretty good film (at least for me it’s very enjoyable) but one Sartana film is enough.

$100,000 for a Killing: for nothing in special, just by elimination.

So…what is my official Alternative Top 20 now?haha

I make it this:

10,000 Dollars for a Massacre
Bandidos
The Hellbenders
The ugly ones
Night of the serpent
Cut-throats nine
Sabata
Tepepa
Johnny Hamlet
Gunman of Ave Maria
Texas Adios
Sartana
Kill them and comeback alone
Massacre Time
Navajo Joe
California
Mannaja
God forgives…I don’t
The unholy four
Professionals for a massacre

If you don’t agree just let me know.
Essentially, this is your 20 favourite fims that do not currently appear in our Official Top 20 list so would qualify as your Alternative Top 20 list.

Aaaam, understood. So you took the last three alternative titles that I put on my top 20 and put them into my alternative list, right?

Thanks for your job! It’s still a pretty good list, I think :smiley::smiley:

Fuck, I see now that I misunderstood the titles of some films…I hope you apologize me, but I’m not familiarized with the English title. I know them in Italian and Spanish and in some cases I guessed the title based on their original title, like Tempo di massacro (Time of killing instead of Massacre Time) or Per 100,000 dollari ti ammazzo ($100,000 for a Killing instead of Vengeance is mine).

These six, because they are Top 20 films for you but don’t appear on the Official Top 20 list:

10,000 Dollars for a Massacre
Bandidos
The Hellbenders
The ugly ones
Night of the serpent
Cut-throats nine

The three that you cut from the second list are the ones I like the most: 6th, 10th and 4th respectively in my not very recent Alternative Top 20! haha

JC is correct.

But this is your list Carlos so let me know if you want to change anything. If not I’ll add it to the Alternative Top 20 database so it will contribute to that.

1 For A Few Dollars More (Sergio Leone)
2 Once Upon A Time In The West (Sergio Leone)
3 A Fistful Of Dollars (Sergio Leone)
