Vote for Our Official Top 20

Eh, that was 10 years ago, youtube hardly existed back then nor there wasn’t much sw’s on the torrent sites. Major of my collection came from trading dvd-r’s at that time, so much easier nowadays.

Way easier lol I do miss having to hunt down copies.

Could you please expand your list to 20. I’ll use it then as part of the big forum’s top 20 list.

But then, is this your list of your favourite SWs, or just a list of 12 outsiders you like to recommend?

Thanks. Nice username by the way, love Peckinpah’s films. Funnily enough Susan George who stars in Sonny and Jed is in Straw Dogs.

Yes Sonny and Jed would be in my Top Twenty aswell.

Why not posting it?
Isn’t it time? You are already a few months in this forum and probably have watched the one or another Spag in the meantime …

Id like to reccomend these. Lets see how many points they get. A few films ive yet to see (Gli Specialisti, shoot the living, ruthless four, sky full of stars and others), so i cant make a definitive top 20 yet.

Yes must make an effort Stanton

A top 20 does not need to be definitive. You can change it any time you want, means you can post a new updated one.

But of course it is your decision when you think you have watched enough SWs for a proper list.

Come on, it’s time. It does hurt less than one might think …

Yeah, Ennioo!.. But first and foremost make sure you have a few beers.

Sound advice …needed them tonight with the western I viewed.

Hi @stanton, there are some good films in the outskirts of the SW genre, in particular: Le goût de la violence, O’ Cangaceiro, O Dragão da Maldade contra o Santo Guerreiro, La collera del vento, A Town Called Bastard, and I wonder if any of them are selectable for the SWDB top twenty? None of them are in the top fifty, so I have taken it for granted they are not. You have probably been over this before, but it is by now easier to ask than to read the whole thread…

Morgan, any and every spaghetti western is eligible. Stanton keeps a spreadsheet of every single spag which has been voted for. It’s how the top fifty is compiled in the first place.

If a movie’s not a spag, it’s not eligible. But that’s it, really. Oh, and every list submitted needs to be a full list of twenty, ranked in order of preference (so, you can’t just submit a top ten for instance, or a twenty in no specific order) otherwise Stanton can’t accurately award points to those movies.

Of course there are always a few films which are half Spag and half not. And some we (not only I) have accepted so far, others not. Some Karl May western with an Italian co-production credit are not allowed, cause the forum consensus was so far not to view them as Spags.
Le goût de la violence, O’ Cangaceiro and La collera del vento have already a few points, so I accept them. There are 3 or 4 more border cases already in the list
But e.g. Le goût de la violence would make my Top 20, if I would view it as a western, but I don’t do so.

The Rocha film is not a western imo and I view A Town Called Bastard as an US western shot in Europe. So I would prefer if you don’t vote for them, if it is not too important for you.

Yeah, I know all about it. The very first time I posted on the Forum some 18 months ago, I posted a top twenty list, and Stanton refused it… :grinning:

Sounds reasonable. I agree Le goût de la violence is too early to be considered a spaghetti. I need to have a look at my top twenty then.

Better too early than too late.

And both better than never.

I want to add La collera del vento to my top 20. The one and only anarcho-syndicalist spaghetti western. Sartana non perdona has to go. And I see my first top 20 needs reshuffling. Now is as good a time as any. So this was my first:

  1. Once Upon a Time in the West
  2. A Fistful of Dollars
  3. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
  4. For a Few Dollars More
  5. Django
  6. Il Grande silenzio
  7. Duck, You Sucker!
  8. Faccia a faccia
  9. La Resa dei conti
  10. Companeros
  11. Une cord, un colt
  12. Tepepa
  13. El Precio de un hombre
  14. Quien Sabe
  15. 10.000 dollari per un massacre
  16. La Taglia è tua… l’uomo l’ammazzo io
  17. Keoma
  18. Sartana non perdona
  19. Il Mercenario
  20. California

And this is my new:

  1. Once Upon a Time in the West
  2. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
  3. Il Grande silenzio
  4. For a Few Dollars More
  5. A Fistful of Dollars
  6. Django
  7. Faccia a faccia
  8. Duck, You Sucker!
  9. La Resa dei conti
  10. Companeros
  11. Tepepa
  12. Une corde, un colt
  13. El Precio de un hombre
  14. Quien Sabe
  15. La collera del vento
  16. 10.000 dollari per un massacre
  17. La Taglia è tua… l’uomo l’ammazzo io
  18. Keoma
  19. Il Mercenario
  20. California

Nice list and interesting to see the changes. Good to see Tepepa included it’s one I rate quite highly (15 on my list). I haven’t seen The Ugly Ones or California yet - on my watch list!
