The Tramplers / Gli uomini dal passo pesante (Albert Band / Mario Sequi, 1965)

I watched the Wild East DVD this evening. Looks pretty nice but not outstanding, I took some screen grabs.

Good film, interesting storyline different to many other Spaghettis. Its like an old style American western but with enough spaghetti elements to make it interesting. I’d say it was above average. Franco Nero is pretty wooden in it but then I don’t really rate him as an actor apart from his looks. He’s better when he doesn’t talk so much which is why people like him in Django I think.

Forgot how obsessed Joseph Cotton was in this, and takes this obsession a step further in his character in The Hellbenders. Good cast in this which really strikes the good and the bad teams so to speak. A fine early one for sure for me.

Watched the Wild East disc.

Below average affair, with the plot itself being the strongest point. Gordon Scott isn’t much of a lead in my opinion. The action is pretty lame. What bothered me the most is the totally unsatisfying ending, which just sucked. Moreover I found it laughable that (and how) Joseph Cotten becomes instantly nuts.

Is it Luciano Rossi in the middle?

It certainly does look like it could be him. He’s not credited as being in this though in A Violent Professional as I’m sure you’re aware.
Well spotted?

Yes, I think it’s him.

The Cordeen family has one motive, unleash hell on the north, even after they’ve lost the war. In the town where they reside, Temple Cordeen takes the law into his own hands and punishes anyone who disregards his commands (For example the hanging of Edith Wickett’s father). Lon Cordeen along with Temple’s daughter, and Hoby all question their father’s motives, and can’t decide at first who’s side their on. Eventually Temple’s daughter marries a man whom Temple does not care for. As you guess, the family falls apart. I enjoyed this very much, and I would put it somewhere I would at least put it in my top 30. Very good film, especailly if you like Joseph Cotton.

Not bad, although I think that with a more capable director a better result could have come out of the story. Joseph Cotten and the score are among the film’s highlights. 3/5 stars

Let’s look into some rare Wild East releases. Episode 1: THE TRAMPLERS. We found some used listings Amazon.de (https://amzn.to/3NLesYO or https://amzn.to/3wPip80 or https://amzn.to/38QSgOw), Amazon.com (https://amzn.to/3lV9Vax), Amazon UK (https://amzn.to/3M02DNd) and Amazon.ca (https://amzn.to/3t6Dud7). The DVD also pops up on Ebay every now and then. Verdict: Still somewhat easy to obtain for collectors.

Sebastian,
I have updated the database page.
Because the Blu-ray will be released in Japan on April 28.

The film was also broadcast by satellite in Japan in January. Unfortunately, the video was greenish.
As there was STUDIO CANAL Intro., I suppose the master video for Blu-Ray will be the same as for broadcasting.

StudioCanal could also hint at the fact that if they restored this and own licenses internationally, we may finally see this from other labels too.

Update: I also updated the film’s page to the new layout. Couldn’t find a high resolution version of the Italian poster though…

Update 2: It is even listed as an UHD

hm still not cover and I can no longer find the 4K ultrahd version listed, can you look into some japanese bluray news/rumor websites to find out more?

Before “The Tramplers”, the Blu-ray of “Macho Callahan”, which was broadcast on BS in Japan at the same time, will be released on this month. It’s not released as an UHD, but seems to be down-converted by using UHD master.

So I suppose “The Tramplers” will not be released as an UHD, neither.

Unfortunately only in Japanese, a little detailed information is in the following link,

It says that there are 2 audios, English (dolby digital) and English (mono). Running time : 105 min. Aspect ratio : 16:9/LB. Subtitles : Japanese.

wow, still no cover

Now there’s a cover
And also a back-cover, so maybe @Alleluja you can help us confirm some of the specifications of the release as it can be read on the back cover etc.

@Admin I made a little correction for the specifications.
Today a promotional video has been posted.

As I mentioned, the video was greenish unfortunately.

I have heard from another source that the master is a bit inconsistent when it comes to the color, greenish in some parts, but not throughout

It was exactly the same color tone as it was broadcast on BS-TV in Japan.
The mistake in the subtitle was also wrong in the same place.
