The Stranger’s Gundown / Django il bastardo (Sergio Garrone, 1969)

[quote=“scherpschutter, post:180, topic:560”]Here’s a list (I don’t think it’s complete)

;D

Viva Django is the closest in atmosphere to the first Django with Nero. Django Strikes Again may have Nero in, but lacks that ‘Django’ feel for me.

Indeed, Django as a sort of Bhuddist Monk in Mexico is not quite my idea of cinema’s ultimate avenger.
If you make a monk out of Django, you’d better ask U2 to write the score (and Bono to take over from Nero)

Yeah,… imo, its just too slow… it stays at the one level the whole time… the way Steffen walks in this drive me crazy, and his greasy looking stubble, that same music note they play every time he appears… Garrones camera work make the scenes go on longer than they need to.

I always think its going to be good after opening scene, but it always ends up being very hard to sit through, for me.

The opening scene is great, but I still have a feeling it could have been made better. Can’t complain about it too much though, it’s one of the best moments in this flick.

As for unofficial Django sequels, my favorite ones are Viva Django (1968) - Preparati la bara! with Terrence Hill and 10.000 Blood Money (1967) - 10.000 dollari per un massacro with Gianni Garko. These have a real spaghetti western feeling in it, the former in spite of having rather unoriginal synopsis is the closest to Corbucci’s Django, no doubt about it.

Just saw this. Alright, its fairly slow moving but its intentional, and I didn’t find a single moment to be boring, its all about building the tension to a crescendo. I give this one 4 stars, its above average and i think it makes my Top 10 faves. Steffen as Django is great, and its got to be one of prolific supporting actor Luciano Rossi’s better roles (as Luke Murdoch). I think it could have been improved by a better score, but its a really well made film.

Anyone know of a release with better A/V quality than the VCI dvd?

That is a good question. As far as I know VCI has the best DVD A/V quality. Can’t be 100% though but that is from what I have gathered.

I thought the Argentinian version from DSX Films has better picture quality than the VCI dvd and has english audio.

Does the Argentinian dvd use the same master as the French dvd then ?

French vs Argentina discs:

French (Seven)

Argentinian (DSX)

Both look way better than VCI.

Yeah, the Colonel is right they look much better than the VCI which is pretty sub standard. Im guessing the French DVD would be the easiest to get hold off. Does it have English? Argentinian DVDs would be impossible to get here in UK.

DSX has their spaghetti collections up at:
http://www.spaghettiwestern.com.ar/index.html

From what I understand, they include English as well as some nice features like mini-posters

The French release does not include English options, but there exists already a fandub using this source

Thanks Autephex. After searching around for a bit on that site I found a link to a online reseller which has more details:

http://www.plopme.com/django-bastardo-p-1327.html

looks like that one only has Italian audio and Spanish subs. Others in the collection DO have English options though, but not all.

And at $50 each plus shipping, they sure ain’t cheap!

My Argentinian dvd has english audio. Purchased from E Bay a while back forget how much, but it was alot less than that .

You can see some photos of these sets here from p.pereira :

Like ENNIOO says, this title does include English audio with removable Spanish subtitles

Doea anyone have this version, some sites say it has ITA with eng subs?

I also have the French fandub aswell

I posted a link to that one a moment ago but deleted the post because I thought it was the Argentina disc

http://www.dvdgo.com/dvd-django-el-bastardo-dvd/2070347

This link says it has Spanish and English audio tracks, and subtitles in both languages also

thanks, i’ll hope to buy it eventually then. looks like there are other good titles in this line as well.

I have the Spanish disc, it only has Spanish and Italian audio and Italian subs. No English.

Damn. I was thinking of getting this one and the If You Want To Live Shoot with Ivan Rassimov.
