Just watched Der Tod sagt Amen aka Arizona Colt Returns. First let me say the picture quaility of the Koch Media disc is magnificent. Job well done. That said the movie didn’t really get to me though. Sort of a semi-funny but not quite western comedy. Let’s face it Antonio De Teffé isn’t the greatest actor around and comedic talent he certainly has not. The story is ok, the usual hunt for gold but would have been a lot better witout the funny bits or at least with a different lead actor. And oh God please kill that title song. I’m usually crazy about the spaghetti western songs but this one has got to die.
I said here on the forum once that the ‘dirty’ Steffen was an unlucky choice to take over from the ‘ultra-clean’ Giuliano Gemma. Steffen is definitely better in tough, mean roles than semi-comical ones. But then I noticed that ‘Colt’ is missing in the original title : Arizona si scatenò … e li fece fuori tutti (Arizona was outraged … and kicked them all out). So it isn’t really meant to be a sequel (at least it’s a loose one). The title doesn’t seem very serious to me, rather tongue-in-cheek. So we probably have to judge it for what it is, not a sequel to Arizona Colt, but a semi-independent, semi-comical spaghetti western.

Kinda great movie i guess, but i wasn’t able to pay too much attention to it while watching, because i guess that almost everything in the world tried to not let me watch it undisturbed

I’m pretty sure De Teffé character is called Arizona Colt in the movie (I heard the Italian dub) so at least it’s a ripped off name

Correct, I checked a summary in an Italian book. I have seen a VHS, quite a few years ago (I think it was a french one) and don’t remember what he was called in it.
I find it odd they decided to make a semi-comical sequel to Arizona Colt with De Teffé.
Arizona Colt isn’t a comedy; there a a few typical light-hearted Gemma moments, but overall it’s a gritty and violent film.
So I don’t see the point in replacing Gemma by De Teffé and then make this kind of movie.
Was Gemma replaced in the last moment?
Like I said it’s quite a few years ago since I’ve seen it, but I remember it as very uneven, with De Teffé completely out of place, jumping around (as if it were a Parolini movie) before shooting large numbers of opponents with reduced numbers of bullets.
Just finished viewing the low budget Drummer of Vengeance, as I wanted to hear the ‘Hellbenders’ score in another film.

The Big Country. I liked this one a lot - very good script, brillant acting, outstanding cinematography. Even if it’s very slow paced, the finale is worth waiting for.

I don’t see any reason to consider Arizona Colt Returns as sequel to Arizona Colt, since production companies are entirely different. It’s just a rip-off of a famous name. Those who buy the idea of this film being a sequel and complaining about Steffen’s Arizona Colt being very different from Gemma’s character should also complain about that fact that Steffen doen’t drag a coffin in any of his Django films !

Just viewed Dynamite Jim and come across as a boring melodrama
most of the time.
I am NOT keen at all on the Arizona Film with Giuliano Gemma. It is Ok watchable no more.

A little known spaghetti western. I can confirm the Rev’s idea about the English title: Bury them deep.
Craig Hill is a army officer who must regain a shipment of gold robbed by a famous bandit. Therefore he saves a convicted murderer (Ettore Manni) from being hanged, because the man knows a few things about the bandit. We only learn later what their exact relationship was and why Hill needed him so badly.
According to some critics stock material from other SWs was used. If so, the film still works rather well: the story has enough plottwists to keep you interested and Hill and (especially) Manni are very decent actors. Moreover the film is very well shot on beautiful locations (I don’t know where, it didn’t look like Almeria; some scenes reminded me of the Split area where the Winnetou films were shot). The films greatest problem is the director’s tendency to let his stuntmen fall from great heights (rocks, rooftops) to make his action scenes look more exciting. After some twenty sky-diving, air-gliding extras the phenomenon starts to get on your nerves.
No masterpiece, but worth a look: 3 out of 5

Yes, i really enjoyed this one. A lot of torture, a great villainous double team of William Berger and Francisco Brana, and that gross spitting scene…eew! The one i saw was the German audio only dvd, so i’m looking forward to reviewing it in English with the FC version 
You will be well pleased with the English audio version!..and yes that horrible spitting scene!
I suppose being shot thru’ the hands is a bit of a breeze then?
