Watched the excellent God Forgives,I Dont. I see its at #30 on the top 50 list even without a decent English audio release… If it did I wonder if that ranking might go up a few? Hmm…
Is it coincidence that Run Man Run, Mannaja and Navajo Joe all have easily available English audio releases and are ahead of (the much better) God Forgives I Dont in the poll? I think not…
I’ve reviewed 6 of Mulargia’s westerns, of which I rated Cjamango highest (6,5/10) and El Puro and Shango lowest (both 5/10). The rest 6/10 stuff.
An ok director that knows how to shoot a western. I wouldn’t compare Brother Outlaw to Fidani’s films. Action scenes are totally different technically and in terms of build up and so is the atmosphere. But Brother Outlaw isn’t that bad. It just feels a little uninspired and is a tad too slow. The gunplay, albeit brief and with the typical Leone type setup, is the best thing about it. Otherwise pretty forgettable, but not a bad film for a sunday afternoon.
Not exactly the Fidani style, but the flaws are similar. Things like scenes that don’t make much sense and go on forever, the bad acting, the poor sets …
And it is very boring.
I think the top 50 is, to a certain extent, a popularity contest. I have the feeling if the English DVD was more readily available, God Forgives would have a lot more votes. Maybe im wrong
