The Last Western You Watched?

some of you knew, this is going to happen
White Comanche has enriched my collection of viewed spaghetti westerns
well, not sure if this was a spaghetti, maybe not
so, what was it?
i wanted to watch it mainly because of bill shatner, probably, if he wasnt there, this afternoon trashy western session never would have happened.
so, shatner, at least for me, was okay, he could be a good western character
well, except for shatner, nothing in this flick is good (okay, joseph cotten maybe)
music is very strange, and i mean by that, strange in a negative sort of way -
for example, Boot Hill had some sort of strange music, but in BH case, it fitted
movie perfectly imo, in WC, music was recognizable, although not very creative, and didnt suit movie very well
some of the scenes were shot in weird way (editing, lighting) , but maybe some of this problem lies in the fact, i was watching poor tv version
on the other hand, we have few inspired moments - gunfight in a town took place in a swirling clouds of dust, which was scene i would like to watch
in widescreen dvd release
screenplay was not that bad, as someone would expect - to make it brief - johnny moon has an evil twin brother (white comanche) and at the beginning,
they settle some conditions about final showdown (between them), which will take place at the end of the movie
fine director would do wonders with that, but this movie had no one like castellari
another drawback were indians, they were ridiculous and when they started shouting and yelling (or even acting), well that was time for examination of conscience of these filmmakers
Winnetou and Old Firehand
this was probably most spaghetti winnetou movie i“ve seen
its 1966, so they certainly were inspired by spaghies, maybe its coincidence
but one of characters was called Leone
maybe scherp mentioned it in his review
- have to check it out ;D
really good music by Peter Thomas, it also has spaghetti feeling, some guitars and harmonica
superb cinematography in some scenes, as well as action
i kinda liked this one, even if it had most ridiculous main villain killing - Rod Cameron got him with arrows and it all looked like from another movie
yap, and Rik Battaglia was a goog guy

well, something like that i would expect in a Stranger movie, little reminds a gun called Lancaster Howdah
I didn’t. I guess I didn’t notice, otherwise I would have mentioned it. I think the Dutch DVD I watched had only German audio, maybe you watched the film in English? Or a so-called ā€˜Klamauk’ version? It’s the kind of thing the Germans sometimes added to their dubs to make them sound funnier. It’s a typical German thing as far as I know.

i have all these karl may movies in german/czech audio and with Slovak/Czech subs, but i prefer german audio.
So, to our ā€œleoneā€ situation, it happens after some 16:30 min. (plus, minus) and there is this blondie boy (FirehandĀ“s son),
who speaks to a guy ā€œonkel Leoneā€¦ā€, well, it could be Leon, maybe, but i have it in subs like ā€œLeoneā€.
This filmĀ“s original language was English, am i right? Maybe it was ā€œUncle Leoneā€ in English too.

okay, another one on my list was Durchs Wilde Kurdistan
it is a second orient adventure of Kara ben Nemsi - or third, dunno if Im Reichen Des Silbernen Lowen is in the middle or at the end
but soon i“ll find out.
nevertheless, Kurdistan was a good adventure movie, better than Der Schut imo, with a few surprises (of course, i did watch these movies as a child,
but long time ago, so i find out a good thing to not remember it very well) - for example, really refreshing was the finale, where main villain threw a big rock at Kara
and sucessfully knocked him down.
another merit was music and im getting used to the fact that whenever i“m going to watch karl may film, some musical experience is nearby.
at the end we have some really powerful landscapes on a screen and it little reminds me of Cappadocia locations
fistfight between Kara and Machredsch took place on dangerously looking uphill and is truly breathtaking

I’ll check things, but like I said, I tink my copy has only German audio.
Not likely that Rod Cameron spoke German on the set, no.

My copy is German audio with english subtitles.

Did my annual view of The Good the Bad and The Ugly, it could be a TVrip, a VHS/Beta tape, a DVD or BlueRay as it was the case still the same masterpiece magnificent film.
As a matter a fact every time I watch it I like more.

McMasters
-Pretty poor american western about racial issues. A black guy buys some land and is persecuted by the townfolks. Our hero is otherwise likeable but in true 70’s western style he rapes her indian wife. Some other stupidness in the plot too and the ending looks really hastily made.
Jack Palance is the bad guy who keeps chewing the tobacco all the time (and the scenery  ).

The last western I watched was Arizona Colt, which felt like a missing Ringo movie. That’s not a bad thing, of course.

Have you seen Wanted? It’s similar to Arizona Colt and the Ringo films a little; has Gemma in the lead role.

Yeah, I’ve seen it. It’s pretty good, but I think Gemma’s character is a bit more of a do-gooder in Wanted. In the Ringo films (really A Pistol For Ringo) and Arizona Colt he is more amoral and his motives are purely selfish.

Watched The Return of Ringo today, fantastic movie, but it misses my top 20 by just one place. Am I alone thinking that the shooting was uneven? Aside from that, I can’t think of anything really negative (oh, well, maybe one scene where Gemma exaggerates his expressiveness). Nieves Navarro was just out of sight in this flick (and she rocked that Union hat), Gemma was damn good and I’ve never seen Fernando Sancho suit a role this much. Remarkable score, stylish directing, strong script, blahblah, it’s all been said before, but it’s true.

no, you“re not alone ;), i also think some shooting scenes were badly directed,
and mostly it showed up in that town gunfight before house gunfight.
And that Indian, nooooo. He looked like from another movie.
But, if we focus only on the shooting scenes, i love finale - house showdown, thats great.
If i compare these two scenes - Town gunfight vs. House showdown - it looks to me like work of two different directors.
And some other non-shooting scenes are pure joy to me, plus great song.
Return of Ringo is 21. on my Spaghetti list, but is slowly sinking down, as i watch other spaghies.

Yes, the second shootout was better, but I didn’t think it was great, good, but not great. Did the Indian even shoot an arrow on screen? lol.

Dunno if he demonstrated art of archery in town, but in a house scene, he certainly shot off one guy from a tree
He looked in those scenes like no one care about what he is doing there.
But i like this house showdown a lot, plenty of ideas and indian was stuck somewhere in a forest, thanksgod.
Love the scene in which Ringo shot the leading villain - just loading that winchester with one hand

Only judged by the first 60 min of Return of Ringo it belongs imo to the best directed SWs behind Leone and Corbucci. Unfortunately the 2 longish shoot-outs near the end are a weak ending to the film and spoil some of the quality.

Winnetou I. is in the viewfinder
and its a hit
well, i grew up on these movies, but when i am watching them in recent times, i really enjoy them
without any necessity of nostalgia to uplift the emotional experience.
it“s interisting to compare Winnetou trilogy to Kara ben Nemsi orient trilogy, first one has much elaborated screenplay
and enormously higher bodycount - and imo displayed in a very realistic way (thankfully, no one shoots from a shotgun and pretends that he hitted the target with a single bullet
btw now i know how Old Shatterhand got his name - Sam Hawkins did the job  - at least in the movie
love this widescreen remastered version, disc contains bonus where is old and new version compared to each other
and i got that only for one lousy euro :stuck_out_tongue:

Tonight I finished watching Ringo, Face of Revenge starring Anthony Steffen, Frank Wolff, Eduardo Fajardo and Armando Calvo. This is another average SW with a little better than usual acting for Steffen. Whoever they got to dub Wolff in English was terrible (I think it sounded like the same guy who did Django). This could perhaps be because it was dubbed after Wolff committed suicide in '71 but correct me if I’m wrong. Fajardo’s character was actually pretty funny (hard to believe it’s the same guy who played Major Jackson). The film reminded me of The Ruthless Four which was made a year later and had a similar gang of treasure hunters story. The ending was a nice one that I didn’t expect. I give this 3 out of 5.

Fajardo in Gentleman Killer had also unusual role of a mexican bandit, it was his best i ve seen so far (but didnt see so many) - i even didnt recognize him for a while, but then, waaaait a minute, thats Fajardo

Vier Teufelskerle (Campa carogna… la taglia cresce / Those dirty dogs)

first i thought this film is too silly , but the austrian general (murkser in my german version) saved the movie !
