Hadnt had much time for movies, but i came back to watch resa di conti. Great movie, and when the titles came on with the great music, that alone was enough to remind me why i love this genre!

Just goes to show… I can see why it wouldn’t be on everybodies Christmas list, but I love this one. But as I’ve also said before … maybe I’m just a sucker for a ‘hero’ that’s looking at the world through the bottom of a glass.

A good one. Strong politcal message which Scherpschutter points out in his review. Strange because of alack a over th top excess as in mst spaghettis. I don’t know why, but sthing about this film reminded me of Beyond the Law. Maybe it was the character that John Ireland plays.

Massacre Time
Just finished a few minutes ago. I thought it was not going to be that good but the whipping scene renewed my interest. The pace came up pretty fast and a couple of brilliantley filmed action scenes followed. Definitely enjoyed it and found myself smiling with satisfaction quite a few times.
Forgotten Pistolero
Thought I’d rewatch this one. Still not great but I still respect it. Very well made and the finale has quite a bit of emotional power. The shootings toward the end get a bit sloppy. I don’t really like it when they show the gun firing and then after about 3 seconds they fall. I prefer it when they edit it faster when thy fall within the second of the gun firing. The beginning has the better quality gunfights. Great music. The title also adds to the likeable part. The Forgotten Pistolero is a great tile for the hero. I also like Spaghetti Western where the heroes have a mission to accomplish. Forgotten Pistolero has a mission for the hero to accomplish. I like the fact that the wrong that must be righted happens in the past. I didn’t really like I Want Him Dead because they try t develope the character before he has motivation. This film definitley has proper motivation and the focus on ths aids the film.
A Stranger in Town
A strange one. I tried to add up the amount f runtime in the middle where no one speaks. It added to something like a full 30 minutes without a word! I really like this. This sequece is probably the part that makes everbody think this film is slow paced. I disagree. If you look beyond this scne there is more than enough action. Great music even if the guitar piece is overplayed. I like the overall quiteness of this film. Very little sound effects and even some of the action scenes feel quite. Tony Anothony is Great no matter what a dumb ass critic says. I think it is really stupid of them not to notice what he was trying to do. He is playing the strong silent character. Therefore, he is not suppose to “act”. ut he plays his part very well. You never hear any criticism of Eastwood who did the same thing! A good spaghetti with a strange atmosphere.
Duel at Diablo (1966) was on the box late last night and kept me up just as I was about to slink off to the pit. From what I remember, I’m not a big fan of American made Cavalry/Indian films. As a kid/youth they seemed either too racially simplistic and patronising, or otherwise too laden down with allegory and apology (I didn’t like Soldier Blue).
However I did like this outer.
The balance was just about right. Both sides were shown as being less than perfect. Racism and brutality (and compassion) were realistically present, and presented, in both the whiteman and the redskins attitudes to each other, and to the hybridity of those (Garner and Andersson, and the baby) that crossed into the other’s domain. And it was a pretty damn brutal journey at times.
What was great was the interplay between the main characters. Garner, Poitier and Weaver didn’t fail to deliver - but there was good back-up as well from Bibi Andersson as the woman caught between 2 worlds (both of them pretty nasty) and from Hoyt as the resigned Indian chief, Chata. Bill Travers as the armyman nearly stole the show for me tho’. And in contrast to all the racist attitudes, which were never allowed to swamp the action, Poitier’s ‘blackness’ was never referred to, he was just another fellah reluctantly gettin’ on with it - which was both refreshing and interesting. It would have been too obvious to have drawn parallels and pushed a ‘point’ - so they didn’t. And that’s gotta be good! For this spaghetti-head it was a decent enough venture away from spaghetti-dom into its American made contempory - but I’ll be stickin’ with SWs for a while yet … or maybe A Man Called Sledge next ;)?
Finally got around to seeing Tepepa. A refreshing change from all the halfassed spags I’ve seen lately.
Watched Bad Man’s River…a refreshing change from all the good westerns I’ve watched lately 
I then immediately threw in Unforgiven to set things right.
Uno Dopo L’Altro, again. Should be wading through my to watch pile but listening to the soundtrack put me in the mood for this one again. Have to say, once i get that pile watched, i’ll be redoing the top 20 (though hopefully it’ll be a top 30 by then) and i think this one will move up a place or two…
Road to Fort Alamo
One of the few Mario Bava Western. Short and entertaing but has the look of the 50’s (or 40’s) cavalry western.

Phantom’s Review: Well made. entertaining movie. Decent story, plenty of action and Raquel Welch (who is absolutely gorgeous)
About 15 minutes of Finders Killers…I just didn’t have the strength to continue. What a steaming coil of crap.
I had to rewatch forgoteen pistolero again. With this film, I try and try to like it more but most viewings leave it a 3.7 out of 5 movie. Last night, for some reason, I liked it more than usual.
