Just finished viewing " They Call Him Cemetery".

A great mixture of action & comedy.

Garko and Berger were just superb.

-Maybe it’s just because of my hangover but after 5 minutes of watching this I can’t really remember what happened in this film.

I really liked this one too…just watched it last week for the first time.
Watched Death Rides a Horse as part of my revisiting Petroni season.
Found it not to be as good in parts as I remembered it - but I still enjoyed it and particularly the wind-swept shootout at the end…

On the other hand - I’ll reckon Night of the Serpent will remain my favorite - cos altho’ it is a simple plot - it’s just so quirky and filled with great characters - I love this film more with every viewing.

(Havn’t watched …Roof full of Stars or Providence yet tho’.)
Rewatched DRAH myself a couple of days ago. Always had a crap copy so finally got the MGM one. Man what a difference…better picture, better sound, other one was too dark and could not see much detail now I’ve realised. Always liked this film but now see why people rate it so high.

Also watched Barquero yesterday and Poker With Pistols today…enjoyed them both.

Thought the end of Barquero was a bit weak cos I had spent the whole film thinking “Why don’t they just…?” and that is what they finally did about 1 1/2 hrs too late. If it was that easy why not do it earlier. Still enjoyed it though.

Debating what to watch next and having read what the Rev says about Night Of The Serpent think it will have to be that.

Adios Companeros (Giu la testa, Hombre) finally made it into the machine this morning. I’m currently working my way through a little pile I refer to as ‘films I suspect will be crap but need to watch anyway’.

Well, of course, my suspicions were correct. It was rubbish in true Fidani style. By which I don’t mean the poor production values, low budget or bad acting. I mean the way he starts the story off in one way and then completely ignores it as we move on. He changes tack and then ignores that new direction too. Continuity seemed to be a completely foreign concept for old Dick Spitfire which, as long as you know what to expect, can be quite entertaining in itself. But it doesn’t make for any kind of satisfying experience for me.

What really gets me is how he got some actors to appear in his films who were genuinely capable of very good work. What were they thinking? I know Kinski was notorious for not caring what the films were as long as they paid as much as possible for the least shooting time possible but even so. Gordon Mitchell I can forgive. He couldn’t act anyway. But Hunt Powers? Robert Woods? Did they never read the scripts before they said yes?

Well, I guess at the end of the day the best that can be said for these films is that they have a certain charm.

Wow! What a great film. I better try and check out Petroni’s others.
Any recommendations?
Apart from DRAH of course.

Hmm, I didn’t liked night of the Serpent that much. An odd film mixing good and weak scenes.

We shall make a thread for this, now that everybody has seen it.

I haven’t, as far as I know Phil hasn’t and I guess …

Somehow, this doesn’t surprise me …

Well, at least everybody tries to see it now.

Ace High

Watched “The ugly ones”, always nice to see Tomas Millian on westerns, and good performance by Wyler too, good film.

most people don’t like it but i do like And for a Roof a Sky Full of Stars, if you don’t mind “buddy” westerns give it a go, at the very least i reckon you’ll like the Morricone score ;D

The first Providenza film is also quite good but i personally prefer De Martino’s sequel.

Hands Of A Gunfighter has been viewed.

Early one starring a young looking Craig Hill, who has quite an irritating dubbed voice.
Reminded me of a family kind of western most of the time, but with moments of the Italian western.

Film did not outstay its welcome though, as the film has a short running time.

Kill and Pray. Pretty darn good movie. Bit offbeat but very enjoyable. Lou Castel was great as usual.
BTW the Wild East cover gives a running time of 114 mins but the film only ran for 101 mins. Quite a big difference. Is this version cut?

I guess not
The DIZIONARIO DEL WESTERN ALL’ITALIANA gives 108’
With the Pal speedup of 4 % this is 103.68 = 104 minutes

The german expert Karl has stated that this is indeed the longest known version.

The Pal speedup would result in a runtime of nearly 106 min for the Wild East version.

Pat Garret and the Billy the Kid
-Watched Peckinpah’s cut this time, I liked it now much more than last time. For the first time Bob Dylan’s music was bit weird, now I loved it. Definitely one of the best American westerns.
