this past week if I finally saw The Big Country. great flick
Glad you enjoyed it, Sebā¦
A classic Western, with an instantly recognisable, magnificent and memorable score, by Jerome Morossā¦One of the tunes that they always used to put on affordable āGreatest Western Themesā LPs in the āold daysāā¦the days of Geoff Love etc. (see bottom pic)
I just watched the 1971 Spanish/British/American genre entry, āCaptain Apache,ā with Lee Van Cleef, Carroll Baker, and Stuart Whitman. I was puzzled why I hadnāt heard about the film in books, chat forums, and other media on SWās. Having watched this attempt to make an acid western, I think I know why. Whether itās LVC playing an Apache Indian; his brave yet botched attempt to sing the movie theme song, āApril Morning,ā or the constant use of bizarre racial slurs, like āred ass.ā This movie must be the SW genreās inbred, mutant cousin that no one in the cinematic family talks about. I will admit that I laughed at how gloriulously bad it is.
My 82yr old Grandad just called to say he watched Death Rides a Horse and Sabata because there was little to no football on. Heād seen them both before as Iād gotten him several a few years ago, but it had been a while I suppose and by the sounds of it he had a really good time. Thought that was worthy of a mention on here.
Did he say which of the two movies he liked better,?
Not really. He enjoys them both the same.
ThatĀ“s really cool! Is he a fan of spaghetties in general?
More like traditional American westerns really, except from the dollars trilogy of course, but over the past few years he has been taking a lot of my recommendations spaghetti-wise and really liking them. I know his tastes so donāt go too far down the rabbit hole, but most of the ābig onesā are a safe bet. He was the one that I actually first watched The Good the Bad and the Ugly with back when I was a child.
5 Card Stud (Hathaway). Too bad the transfer on Paramount+ is as bad as they comeā¦ the movie is really interesting and it has a great cast.
Four of the Apocalypse I had my mind open for something different, and it was a really good film.
I like the mood and look of those late twilight spaghettis.
I have also seen Keoma and California.
and Mannaja many many years ago, have to rewatch that one.
Have not seen Silver Saddle and Cut Throats Nine yet.
Watched Wrath of the Wind. Didnāt think much of it.
Popped in the Arrow Blu Ray of $10 000 Blood Money the other day, it was due for a revisit and I just got the set. It still holds up as a mighty fine Spaghetti. However I was a little bit annoyed with the editing this this time around. The desert scenes are thrown in here and there in a sloppy wayā¦
Iām gonna follow up with Vengeance is Mine, which I cannot decide if I like a little bit more or if itās a tie between them.
Just finished Rio Bravo again and still to this day I say the only flaw with that movie is why on earth did Chance throw away those stockings!!!
Watched Tempo do Massacro and E Dio disse a Cainoā¦ from Arrow.
The first was one of the first Spags that I saw on a V2000 videocassette. It must have drawn me into the Spaghetti western world. Awesome to see it in such a good condition
The Tin Star. Excellent flick
The last western I watched was āHere We Go Again, Eh Providence? (1973).ā I thought the sequel to the funny 'Life is Tough, Eh Providence? (1972) would be enjoyable. Or, at least not a travesty. Iām confused how the sequel ended up becoming such a bizarre, garish, plastic nightmare. If anyone knows any backstory or has any information why director Alberto de Martino chose to make the movie the way he did, please tell me.
Watched And God Said To Cain twice over Xmasā¦
Love The Tin Star! Fonda and Perkins! Hoping a blu-ray is on the horizon!
Death Rides a Horse - Plaion Blu-Ray
It must be at least 15 years since I saw it. Really great film. Dark and brutal opening.
Death of a Gunfighter. Didnāt like it that much.
