The Last Movie You Watched?

I can’t stand Sandler either, so maybe this movie is something for me …

Sounds like quite a good “family film night” type movie… I have a stronge dislike for Adam Sandler, as I suspect many of us here do, so it’s nice to know his entire filmography isn’t filled completely with trash.

I hate the guy either.

depends on a movie, Punch Drunk Love is great one, although not because of Sandler i’d say, but director …

Hes made some bad ones recently but I think theres more good than bad overall… i’ve always liked Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy

Same here, I really like his earlier stuff. Bulletproof was also a cracker, and the only time they let him rip back then and make an adult orientated action comedy.

Yes Sir

Citta Violenta / Violent City – most definitely I’m impressed by that flick, at least concerning the international character of the production. I wasn’t aware of the fact that even Italian crime cinema was at the top level of international film-making in the early 1970ies.

Taken 2 - Good film, really enjoyed it. Not a patch on the first one but don’t let that put you off, it’s still really good.

Nearly forgot to say, I had a vintage Chuck Norris double-bill with A Force Of One and The Octagon. The transfers looked a whole lot better than I was expecting them to look like, especially A Force Of One.

An unfortunately cut TV version of Lucrezia giovane (1974), interesting film directed by Luciano Ercoli with the gorgeous Simonetta Stefanelli (Apollonia in The Godfather) and a few familiar faces: Ettore Manni, Piero Lulli, Teodoro Corrà, William Bogart/Guglielmo Spoletini among others.

Excellent use of Monte Gelato Waterfalls location, see reply #8:stuck_out_tongue: ;D http://forum.spaghetti-western.net/index.php/topic,2782.0.html?PHPSESSID=kgh9cdnkpch08qi9mecqgesi92

Pre Basic Instinct or a coincidence?

I thought the original expendable was Stallone lol.

Someone pointed out some camera take similarities between Lucrezia giovane and another Verhoeven film, Flesh+Blood (1985): if so, in all probability it’s no coincidence.

“Messenger of Death” - Bronson flick from the mid-eighties…not too too bad, I was surprised…

Not bad that one. Makes a change from all the action of some of the later Death Wish films.

2 Days in the Valley - 1996 - John Herzfeld

Cool film I guess it’s the kind of story only possible because of Pulp fiction success. But let’s go by parts.

First of all there’s a great cast (perhaps aiming a success that the film didn’t had at the time), with some very cool actors doing uncharacteristic characters for their normal roles in films, true some of them weren’t that famous back then, like Charlize Theron, even Teri Hatcher was mostly a TV actress, still lot of famous faces. Danny Aiello got a great role, and also James Spader gives a fantastic performance as the bad guy, I really don’t like the guy (his parts are always irritating but he’s a good actor), from the bad guy in teen films to the weird guy, Spader does a great job as the sarcastic hit man in a very colorful performance, really out of the blue.
The story is also well displayed with the several plots all coming together in a final climax, but in a very clever way, and the comic scenes aren´t forced into the story, it’s a funny film, with some drama mixed, but mostly funny with dysfunctional characters with “alternative” activities.

There’s also a fantastic catfight between Theron and Hatcher, actually this must have been the first Hollywood film for Theron, she´s really…big I mean…b ig.
So like I said a cool film that will keep you entertained to the end with a great Danny Aiello showing us how good actor he really is (his initial scene with Marsha Mason in the cemetery is just great), and James Spader proving that he could be the obnoxious guy again yes, but in a funny way, but who cares when he had the chance to see Theron without clothes hell yeah.
3,5 stars

The Hobbit:An Unexpected Journey/size Peter Jackson

From a download with a good picture quality, I really enjoyed watching this and it was better than I expected, but it’s not a masterpiece. It drags a little in the beginning when Gandalf the magician and the 13 Dwarfs gather around at Bilbo’s house, but once that’s over with, the real adventure begins.
There’s some good action and battle scenes against the goblins and orcs, but the CGI did not impress me much and it’s noticeable in some scenes. Nevertheless, it’s still entertaining, and the best scene for me was when Bilbo, deep down in a water cave like encounters Gollum and the exchange they have in a riddle battle is fun to watch. 3.5 out of 5.
I’ll be getting the blu-ray for sure.

Innocent Bystanders - Watched the Olive Blu Ray, I enjoyed it more than I did years ago.

The Boys From Brazil - Great performances from Peck and Olivier in this Nazi clone thriller. The Blu Ray from ITV has a nice crisp transfer.

A thriller, combining Noir & Giallo elements, from leone’s former cinematographer Massimo Dallamano

Entertaining trash. The plot twists may be a bit far-feteched, but I didn’t really care. If you think anything with Luciana Paluzzi (and there are people around who think this is the case) this movie is highly recommended. The tigress is at her feline best here.
