Just saw Django Unchained last night. Made me want to come back to SWDB and see what ya’ll think of it. I thought it was great! The music suited the film perfectly and I loved Franco Nero’s little cameo appearance.

Thanks, Bill! Just saw that/posted. ![]()
The Last Polka… comedy, satirizing the early days of Canadian/American live television while also poking-fun at The Last Waltz. -Using the antics of a legendary polka-band performing their ‘farewell’ concert, with reminisces and interviews. Starring Eugene Levy and John Candy as The Schmenge Brothers, from the mythical East-Euro country of Leutonia… retiring to the backyard bbq suburbia of Chicago. Classic.
Resident Evil 5 : Retribution - and i thought third one was bad (well, actually also second one and fourth one …)
phew, one thing is undisputable, this part has very good music, which kinda enhances action scenes, which are sometimes good, sometimes bad and sometimes also ugly
i had similar feelings about Retribution as i had about Afterlife - first 30-40 mins are good, then it got worse - and scenes like two parties shoot at each other for five minutes and then one party brings a prisoner (who was hidden nearby) to take an advantage don’t help either
in the end we see humans’ last outpost - guess where did they entrench themselves - yep, in White House
Yeah, this one sucked big time, just horribly bad. And as long it keeps making money, they will continue to make shit.
Straw Dogs - Haven’t seen it for about ten years or so, watched it again tonight and enjoyed it a lot more than I had done previously.
The U.S. MGM Blu Ray looks really nice (I heard the U.K. one looks shit), just a shame that the only extras are a couple of TV spots and a trailer.
I was looking through some of the trivia about the film on imdb, some interesting reading.
T.P. McKenna, who plays Major John Scott, has his arm in a sling. This wasn’t written in the script - McKenna had broken it while having a wild party with a couple of prostitutes, arranged by director Sam Peckinpah.
The remake was crap I thought compared to the original.

I haven’t seen ”Straw dogs” for many years so I will give it a re-watch next.
I was dragged to a theater to see Resident Evil 2, thing I don’t get is the cut scenes in the old Playstation 1 games would have made a pretty decent zombie movie. Really amazing how they managed to completely fucking ruin an easy idea on every level imaginable, check out Red Letter Media’s critical disembowelment of the series, really funny: http://redlettermedia.com/half-in-the-bag-the-resident-evil-series/
Sleepaway Camp: early 80s slasher that is creepily pedo in damn near every scene, has the creepiest penis reveal in the history of cinema, a pre-pube girl getting a curling iron stabbed in her parts (filmed in an awkward way), just a fucking grimy goddamn awful movie horrendously acted and directed. However, this effectively makes it superior to other slashers of the 80s on sheer creep factor. The creepiness isn’t just a fog machine, it’s goddamn just wrong.
Blade Runner
-I already watched it twice and I fell asleep both times. I thought I should give it a third chance and really concentrate this time. And what fucking bore it is! Easily one of the most overrated films ever made.

Interesting ideas but no, not the great film many people seem to think it is.
I wouldn’t call it a bore though, nor one of the most overrrated films ever made. As said, it has a couple of good ideas (no real surprise, it was based on a Philip K. Dick novel) and the production design is impressive. It has a weak lead (or better: two weak leads, Sean Young is as bad as Harrison), and I preferred the version with the voice over (I’ll accept the happy ending in that case)
Luckily there’s Rutger himself as an android (apart from Kinski no one could’ve done it better) and I like this Darryl Hannah death scene.
I don’t mind Blade Runner, don’t go wild for it though.
Question is, is it overrated? …hell yeah.
I called it a great ‘trip’ once, and that’s probably the best way to enjoy it: Don’t mind the script or the acting too much, just enjoy the trip
Recently bought the Star Wars Complete Saga on Blu Ray and rewatched every film in order. Here are my impressions.
Episode 1: Great visuals and lightsaber duels. Liam Neeson elevates it and Darth Maul is a terrific juggernaut villain. Jar Jar binks is the most annoying character in movie history and comes close to ruining the movie. The woman who plays Anakin’s mom is such a terrible actress. Dialogue is shit. Anakin is quite annoying as a kid as well. Overall this movie is too much like a Cartoon 6/10.
Episode 2: Less Jar Jar which is good. No Liam Neeson but Christoper Lee plays a great villain. We finally get to see Samuel Jackson and Yoda fight. As usual with the prequels, the duels and visuals are top notch. Slightly better story but dialogue is still shit. The romance between Anakin and Padme made me gag. Anakin comes off as incredibly creepy, volatile and possessive, not a very likable protagonist and not sure what Padme sees in him. 7/10.
Episode 3: Terrific visuals and action scenes. Anakin’s turn to the darkside is explained very well. Great character arc. Like with the previous two prequels, the dialogue and acting is shoddy in spots. Very dark film and with great lightsaber duels and decent soundtrack. Much better than the other two prequels. 9/10.
Episode 4: Very entertaining, well acted, great story, groundbreaking and extremely influential. Took Sci Fi to a whole other level. The major problem was the limted budget. The Obi-Wan Vader duel was awful and overall the action scenes were quite shoddy. Would love to see Obi-Wan take out some stormtroopers with his saber but instead we just see him sneaking around the place. The space battle sequence at the end was terrific though, but overall the movie suffers alot from the shoestring budget. 8/10
Episode 5: In my opinion, this is the perfect Star wars film. Everything works in this one. Great characters, acting, story, action, music. Even the lightsaber duel was great. 10/10.
Episode 6: Just about as good as the episode 5, great emotional content, but the idea of ewoks winning a battle against trained stormtroopers is ridiculous. Also Luke becoming a super powerful Jedi with so little training is a stretch. Also vader looks really slow and clumsy. With all the tinkering that Lucas has done with the originals, its a wonder why he doesn’t try to reshoot the lightsaber duels using stunt doubles and CGI. 9/10.
Overall there are a number of things that don’t make sense when watching the series in order such as why Obi-Wan doesn’t recognize R2, why doesn’t Qui Gonn’s ghost also visit Luke and whatnot. Lucas really screwed things up with the continuity. All 6 movies had their share of logic gaps and plotholes. Even in Episode 5, we are led to believe that a trained force user like Luke would let a Wampa sneak up on him unnoticed.
I prefer the sixth to the fifth part, but I’d rate the rest exactly the similarly.
Part 1 - 4/10
Part 2 - 6/10
Part 3 - 7/10
Part 4 - 7/10
Part 5 - 7/10
Part 6 - 8/10
Yeah, I think it’s the most important factor for me disliking it. I don’t like Harrison Ford.
well, for me is Blade Runner one of the best sf movies ever made
its a cult to me, something like GBU or OUTITW
normally i don’t care much about Ford, but in this one i definitely vote for him
