The Last Movie You Watched?

THE KILLERS (1946)
I appreaciate the Remake directed by Don Siegel (with Lee Marvin, Angie Dickenson, John Cassavetes, Ronald Reagan …) but this one just blown me away. Director Robert Siodomark made an excellent Film Noir. The Killers was Burt Lancaster’s first movie role and what a start of a career. Next to him the young Ava Garnder shines as Femme Fatale.

Yes, it is an excellent Film Noir (whcih reminds me, I need to ressurect the Noir thread), but I didn’t know it was Burt Lancaster’s first role. What a start!

I watched Misery, not sure If I had seen it before some years ago. Pretty good Stephen King horror.

Also watched a documentary about Klaus Nomi, damn weird guy I had not heard about before but I became a fan instantly.

All these Klauses!

At this time of year, you can’t forget about Santa Klaus.

Opera (Dario Argento)

Probably more mainstream feel to the feel if it really isn’t. Overall Ithink I liked it but I do have problems with it. I liked Bird With the Crystal Plumage mainly for the eccentric characters and the often slight humor let slip that makes it all easier to digest. But this film is thoroughly dark and mean which makes it all rather heavy. Some great aspects and some not so great. Way too many twists.

3.5/5

That post made me more curios on the film :D.

xtro 2:the second encounter. very poor

Von Ryans Express (1965)
Set in Italy in WW 2 British and American POWs are trying to escape by train to Switzerland. Frank Sinatra is an American Pilot and the highest ranking officer of the prisoners. Next to him grimacing Trevor Howard. Love his face impressions when he wears a Nazi Uniform. I spotted William Berger as Gestapo Man.
A good Movie with some nice suspenseful action scenes.

I was quite shocked by the ending, but in retrospect, you could see it coming for miles off.

Near Dark

A ‘near’ perfect vampire tale with a great story & an even better take on the vampire genre. It is surpassed only by it’s casting as Bill Paxton steals the show as the over the top but hilariously twisted vamp. The story pulls the audience in different directions as you actually like these twisted fucks, killing mercilessly for their O Positive fix. Ever see a vampire run in daylight whilst smoking…literally? If not view this (If you haven’t) as most here probably have.

Whatever Works (Woody Allen)

Allen’s latest film is his best film in years. This success, in my eyes, lies mainly in his return to his roots in extremely nuerotic Jewish humor brilliantley embodied by the other master of unbeleivably Neurotic Jew “umor”, Larry David. Sures it’s just a bunch of complaining and put downs but it has a good enough message in the end and is very funny. Particularly enjoyed Woody’s use of that goofy clarinet music used in his classics like Bananas. Take the Money and Run, etc.

5/5

Kiss of Death (1947)
Another excellent Film Noir.

Yes the ending fits perfect to the movie. Even I like Frank Sinatra but Steve McQueen would be a good replacement for this role.

Amazon Women on the Moon. not as funny as the first time i saw it, and nowhere near as good as Kentucky Fried Movie, but has it’s moments.

Challenge of the Tiger
-Bruce Le and Richard Harrison in cheapie kung fu film. Great fun for hangover.

Redneck (Silvio Narizzano)

How can a film with a good cast (Franco Nero, Telly Savalas, that kid from Oliver?) go wrong? Well, the film plays way too much on gimmicky type things. Savalas’s extremely odd/eventually iritating southern drawling performance is obviously the show stealer. Nero is no match for an overacting Savalas but holds his own quite well. The film also wants to be a road movie. This aspect is good enough as were are taken from the streets of Rome to the snowy French border. But I was expecting more action. Instead, the film’s action department lies only in the graphic jewelry store robbery intro. The rest of the film is just The three boys traveling and arguing and complaining. Another odd gimmick is Savalas’s remorseful bitching everytime he kills someone. He kills a bank clerk, child, family of Germans, etc. And always complains at the end about oh you made me do it.

It is interesting to see Canadian Italian Narizzano make an Italian movie. My previous experience with him was the American Britishwestern Blue. Redneck also shares co production status between Italy and England.

3/5

Watched “Command performance” yesterday. It’s a action flick straight to vhs directed by Dolf Lundgren Unbelievable the use given to that guitar. The kind of stuff you can not take seriously, but I actually like it.

Undead Or Alive a horror western comedy featuring cowboys and zombies as a result of Geromino’s white man’s curse, and the zombies take over a town and a zombie posse go after our two heroes. this had potential and could have worked but sadly for me it didn’t, not that funny and having zombies, that can think, talk and ride horses didn’t work for me. oh by the way they don’t die by being shot in the head you have to remove the head.some decent gore effects at times and raises the odd smile now and again. a major disapointment, and to top it all has one of the stupidiest and what the fuck endings i have ever seen! 4/10 ???

Nevertheless I guess I will have to watch it.
