Some great titles there, Bill…especially 61, 63, 64, and 65… :+1:

My gallbladder was acting up today, so I just chilled back with this film from earlier in the year

Story and character wise, I have to say the filmmakers did a really good job with it, even though the only two characters I honestly cared about were Abigail and Joey. The couple twists they had were really good too. The frequent F bombing was no issue, but some of the gore they didn’t need at all.

I’d give this one a **** out of ***** rating

Watched both of these back to back and they were terrific.

Brute Force (Dassin/1947) 8/10
Naked City (Dassin/1948) 7/10

These obviously fit into my ongoing chronological journey through cinema but I missed Brute Force when I was on 1947 so corrected that now. Both are excellent films and kind of revolutionary for their times in different ways. Naked City with it’s semi-documentary style, Brute Force with its high level of violence. Brute Force made a bigger impact on of the two. In the Hays Code era it was brave to sail so close to the line of siding with the criminals over the authorities even though they were obviously not allow to triumph. Highly recommend both with BF getting the nod of the two. Excellent stuff.

Just finished Black Dynamite from 2009. One of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time, highly recommend if you’re a fan of the Blaxploitation genre.

I’m a long-time fan of ‘The Day of the Jackal’ - the book (by Frederick Forsyth), and the 1973 film, directed by Fred Zinnemann.
So, I sat down with trepidation last night to watch Bruce Willis and Richard Gere in ‘The Jackal’ (1997) - a ‘loose take’ on the original.

Surprisingly, it was very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A new spin on the original source material…an exciting, engrossing, and intelligent re-imagining that did not disappoint in the least.

Bruce was more restrained than usual, with none of the ‘Die Hard’ quips…and it was refreshing to see him reined back from the ‘gung-ho’ gunplay that we usually associate him with.
Richard Gere did his best with an Irish accent; but was very good as the ex IRA man on a mission…

Mathilda May (‘Lifeforce’) looked stunning, as always…even with her clothes on.

Sidney Poitier played a lead role, and his undeniable excellence as an actor, First Class, shone though in every scene…
Apparently, this was Sidney’s final theatrically released film role.

All in all…a cracking ride.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. That was actually pretty damn good, way better than expected. Not super original (this franchise’s plot keeps going in circles…), but I liked it a lot.

A couple of British crime films from 1948.

No Orchids for Miss Blandish (Clowes / 5/10)
Good Time Girl (MacDonald / 6/10)

Both were fine enough and interesting in their way but neither come near the best from this year in cinema. Good Time Girl was the better of the two and had some good moments but became a bit too predictable before too long.

I have read the book and now seen the 3 movies. In my opinion the 1930 version remains the best one. The Netflix version is skipping chapters of the book (like the training sequence) which takes some of the hardship away.

It really is great! Paul Muni was outstanding. I heard Brian De Palma did a remake of in 1983, but I’m not sure if anyone saw it
