The Last Film You Saw in the Cinema?

I like The King of Comedy very much, but don’t care much for the 21th century Scorsese. Apart from The Wolf of Wall Street, which only is marred by being overlong, and becoming towards the end too repetitive in places.

‘King of Comedy’ is excellent…I never tire of it. Despite all the other excellent films that Martin S has directed, ‘King’ is my favourite by far.
The definition of fan adoration taken too far…

Who hasn’t sat down and pretended to interview a celebrity…?

DARN!!
Am I the only one who acts like Rupert Pupkin in real life…!

If any of you haven’t seen ‘King of Comedy’, then please do, ASAP.

I LOVE this film…

Saw Perfect Days today, a magnificent movie. Too bad the aspect ratio garnered my obligatory ratings downgrade, but it is still recommended.

I’d like to see that myself…

Anyone else seen Poor Things yet?

Just come back from seeing a breathtakingly gorgeous 35mm print of it. One of the best films I’ve had the pleasures of seeing on the big screen.

No offense to you personally in any way whatsoever Max, but I have got to go off about this film.

I love Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe but really have a desire to punch Mark Ruffalo squarely in the face in every movie I’ve seen him in following Zodiac. I can’t help it. I think that it is well made beautifully shot, and could have been something really special and, for the first hour? maybe less?, I really thought it might deliver.

However, in the end, I thought it was a self-indulgent and boring piece of shit that bordered on pedophilia porn. I hate to be so up front about it but I can not describe how badly I hate the message of this film when it had the opportunity to really be something truly wonderful if only it had approached things a bit differently. As it is, I think it would have been a major hit on Epstein Island.

The wife and I drove nearly an hour to see this trash and had we also not also seen the very well done The Iron Claw immediately afterward, I would have been irate at the monumental waste of time.

This is simply my opinion, of course, and I don’t expect anyone in any way to share it.

Haha fair enough. I didn’t see it as that at all but I can kinda see where you might be getting that angle from. My only criticism is that the ending and that final little chapter felt a tad bit rushed to me.

But I really did adore it overall, I was belly-laughing for a good chunk of it, as was the rest of the audience. Mark Ruffalo was just bloody fantastic. And that set design was phenomenal, I’m hoping some kind of art book gets released down the line as I love seeing the details that go into big sets like that. I think that’s why as a kid I loved the older Jimmy Bond flicks as they had such awesome sets (looking specifically at the sick ass volcano lair from You Only Live Twice).

On Tuesday I saw Hard Boiled in the cinema via an original 35mm print. The film was fantastic with great humor and action sequences. I liked it so much that I went to see in again yesterday, and I might go again on Friday. The only prior John Woo film I had seen was The Killer, which was great as well.

Currently seated to see Micheal Mann’s Thief in 35mm. Never seen it before so I’m super stoked!

Saw many spaghetti westerns on the big screen since my local cinematheque has been hosting a cycle of our dear beloved genre. Tonight is the crown jewel of them all, Once Upon a Time in the West.

And just look at how copious their program is! I sadly had to miss a few (including GBU) but I did see many of them. All great fun.

Thief and Collateral are my favorites by Mann.

Heat is a masterpiece, it’s a great film, but Thief and Collateral speak to me on another level.

I sadly missed out on seeing Collateral at my local cinema. They are doing a Michael Mann month to celebrate the release of Ferrari. Did go and see his only horror film The Keep today in 35mm. Didn’t like it all that much but was still pretty entertaining.

I like some of the effects shots in that movie, but that’s my least-watched Mann film out of the ones I’ve seen.

Manhunter is probably a better “monster” movie.

I’m planning on going to see that as it is playing soon! Also hopefully going to see Last of the Mohicans and Miami Vice, all three showing in 35mm!

I didn’t love Miami Vice at first but it’s really grown on me. It has a beautiful sense of place, you really feel the vibes.
